Hello everybody,

Since I'm new pretty new to jazzguitar, I want to ask about the tone
setting on blues Junior ( treble, middle, bass) for a classic jazz
sound ( Joe pass , Kenny burrell, Wes ). The guitar is a gibson es
165.

thanx a lot,

Peter

Hi Peter,

I own a Blues Jr. I bought it three years ago and have found it the best
sounding amp that I've owned at any time. I use a 62 reissue strat and an
American Standard strat also. I play lots of chord medlody with the pick and
fingers approach (not as jazz sounding as your es165 though). My settings
for the best "jazz sound" for me is Bass 10, Mids 2, High 12. The master is
full on and volume is around 2 to 2 1/2 for home use. The amp is judged to
be dark sounding by many users so you might need the highs near 12. With
your es165, you may need a somewhat lower bass setting. I have found that
the 62 reissue needs the Bass at 8 and the Amer Std. at 10. Highs and Middle
stay the same for both as the does volume and master.

You should experiment with settings yourself and not rely on anyone else's.
If you are not happy a first with the results, keep experimenting until you
hear "your" sound. That's what I did and found "my sound" by doing so.

Good luck....let me know what your find.....the Blues Jr. is a pretty good
sounding tube amp IMHO.

peter -
I also have a blues jr. w/ my heritage arch top, and it can sound very
jazzzy or bluesy, if dialed in right. - I have to agree pretty much with
what Dave says, you probably will have to back of the bass settings as he
suggested as it will cause some problems ( very boomy if like my heritage),
especially compared to a solid body instrument. To get a truly nice sound I
also replaced the stock speaker w/ a Weber 12" and the difference was well
worth the 80 bucks or so I spent!! It now sounds way better than the other
dozen or so amp's ive owned, and is easily carried!
anyways good luck - the blues jr. is a cool little versatile amp, also IMHO
