Ahh, the days when Pat Metheny had a crazy hairdo and wore striped
shirts. I remember them well.

He had on a solid colored shirt, but he still had this same hair in
August when I saw him. :-)

Now I get it! Here I was thinking that the 'House Of The Rising Sun'
was about a New Orleans bordello when it's clearly named after a crazy
Japanese TV station.

Nice video. I've seen PM live several times but never that close-up.

I couldn't believe his left thumb hanging on the neck during his entire
solo!

Explain the hair to me, please. He's way up there on the list of
famous guys with money and REALLY bad haircuts, right next to Ken
Burns and Donald Trump

It looks like he understands Japanese perfectly. Is that an illusion
or yet another hidden talent of his?

There's a translater right behind him whispering to him what's going
on. I didn't see that at first and thought gee, what a goofy guy just
laughing like that when he had no idea what the people were saying.
After all, they could have been laughing at his shirt or haircut...

He had a good interpreter standing right behind him. When the other guys
were speaking she was doing simultaneous translation for his benefit,
but when she translated his words she waited until he finished, which I
thought showed good taste on the part of the producers.

Those guys were beside themselves in the presence of their hero. Lots of
"I have all your albums" and that kind of thing, but it came across as
sincere. The joking around was mostly poking fun at themselves.

FWIW, the guy closest to Metheny at the start is a decent jazz trumpeter
whose "day job" is as a TV personality; he has at least two shows. They guy
in the middle is an actor, mostly TV dramas, and has actually done some
quite good work in comedies. The guy at the right is a traditional Japanese
comedian (Rakugo) who does a science/health program on NHK (the
government-run TV station). They're three of the best-know TV personalities
in Japan.

I heard that Burns is covering a large birth mark. There's no such excuse
for Trump.
