no but every japanese guitar of theirs I've played I've liked more
than Gibson.

Either way, go to site and click on 'Premium' range an note that
( bizaarly ) the 335 replica ( for that is what Tokais tend to be
rather than mere copies ) is designated 'ES-175' and the ES-175 a-like
is listed as UFA 180!
That's what everyone tells me.
Haven't tried one, but I think they've been making them for decades.

You could well be right, it's just that when I was in the UK they only
offered a Korean version. At the same time with ( for instance ) our
old friends Peerless, many of the models offered in N.Jersey are not
for sale in mainland Europe.
I like the one with the aluminum body and the blue LED fingerboard
dots!
How is the nut width on these Tokais? Skinny little nuts for girly men
with puny fingers, or what?

So...girly men have skinny little nuts?
Do tell!

It's a big problem I have with Asian guitars -- those puny 1 5/8 inch
nuts.

I have one in a natural finish, and it easily beats any Gibson I have
ever played except for one or two from 1960-1962. No new Gibson I've
seen even comes close.

SRV played a guitar with .013s and the skinny 1 5/8 nut. He had huge
hands.
A student of mine in the late '80s had a Tokai Strat that was so good
it lead to me selling my American Standard. It was sometime before I
found a Strat that could match his Tokai for build quality and sound
(a custom shop LH '62). My good friend, luthier Teen Goh owns a Tokai
335 and a Tele from the same period that are both excellent guitars -
nitro finish, immaculate construction.
That's ridiculous - unless the street price is a lot lower than list, the 335
copy is as dear as a Gibson.
My Tokai ES-175 copy has a 1 11/16" nut, but that was part of a
limited run they did last year, not a usual production model for
them. They also make ridiculously good ES-335 copies, but they do
have the smaller nut. I have had someone in Japan ask Tokai to make
me one with an 1 11/16" nut, but they said no.

It's a stylistic thing for me though. I play fingerstyle, and when the
strings are too close together it creates an unnecessary technical
challenge.
