Anna had a great time too, she liked the funky
stuff best, like Candy Dulfer and Chick Corea.
Of the straight ahead stuff, she liked Wynton best.
She also turned out to be quite the groupie - her
flirtatious smile got her an autographed CD from
Dave Holland, and the next day she used the
same smile to get Candy Dulfer's bodyguard to
go backstage and bring her the autograph. I was
impressed!
I also added Keith Freeman to the list of RMMGJ
regulars I've met in person and picked up guitar
tips from. He's a fellow ex-pat Brit, so we spent
a pleasant afternoon drinking tea, eating cucumber
sandwiches, doing silly walks, and admiring each
other's guitars. His Hofner Jazzica is a really nice
instrument, anyone looking for something one step
above the Epi Regent and similar should really
take a close look at that one.
Nice trip!

Hey Dave, sounds like a great time. How was Robin Eubanks sounding (the
bone player in Holland's band)?

Well, I have to confess - what Anna didn't mention to
Dave Holland was that we missed his gig - he was on
at 6 pm on the Saturday, and we didn't get to the jazz
festival early enough because we'd bought an antique
gramophone on our day trip to Delft and had to drop
it off at the hotel first. We got there just in time to meet
him coming out and get the autograph.
But we'll have the chance to check him out on
Tuesday, he's playing right here in Karlsruhe.

Didn't see the festival of course, but I really like that band, though I
don't have any recordings yet. When I saw them in NYC I was truly
impressed with how well Eubanks was able to contend with the
sometimes-over-the-top playing of Chris Potter, whatever that means.
actually I was thinking "you mean after one tune you rolled over and went to
sleep?"
heh
