Being in the 'burbs I'm not too tuned in to what's going on in DC.
I've been to lots of blues jams but if you live around here and know
of jazz jams let me know.
Jeff
HR 57 has a jam session every Fri and Sat night. I've seen a guitar player
there once. He played a Hagstrom solidbody through a little Crate amp and
sounded great. (I talked to him afterwards and he was a Hagstrom fanatic.
Collects just this one model.)
It's definitely a good time. Very laid back with a good mix of stellar and
not so stellar players on various instruments (piano, drums, trumpet, saxes,
slide, etc.) HR 57 is on the web so you can look it up. It's near 14th and
P. I go there every couple of weeks just to hang and take in the tunes.
Also, I'm a mediocre player, but a sincere learner j;-) I'm always up for a
jam session. I play with a few local players, but it would be great to get
something together with bass, drums and a horn (in that order). I like to
play rhythm.

Thanks for the heads up. There's also an open jazz jam Thursdays at Taliano's,
an Italian deli/restaurant in Takoma Park. In fact, I ran into the Hagstrom
fellow you mentioned there -- nice guy, good player. I had a jones for those
Hagstrom Swedes many years ago.
How is 14th and P these days? That used to be no man's land and I ordinarily
wouldn't be inclined to walk around there with a nice instrument over my
shoulder.
>Also, I'm a mediocre player, but a sincere learner
I'm with you on the first part, at least.

I'm a sincere player but a mediocre learner.
I've got to check out this Thu jam. How many folks show up? Where is
Taliano's?

That would give a _real_ musician the opportunity to hock his guitar
for beer money. Good location. :)
They are in Takoma Park, 7001 Carroll Ave. (301) 270-5515 This is
right on the main street at a T-intersection. Kind of looks like a
pizza joint from the outside. Come to think of it, looks that way on
the inside, too :-) The front half is the kitchen and some seating,
and the back half is the bar & tables & stage.
They have lots of blues jams there, see http://www.dcblues.org
