At a glance, the Heritage H-576 looks like it is designed to be
similar in specs to the older Howard Roberts Fusion, the one with the
stop tail -- maple laminate, thinner body than most archtops, etc.
The H-576 would be somewhat less expensive. I was wondering if anyone
could opine on whether the H-576 measures up to the HRF. I like the
versatility of the HRF and have been thinking about trying to acquire
one but I was wondering if I could save some $$$ by getting the
Heritage.

I have a HRF that I've owned for about a dozen years, but I haven't
played the 576,
so I'm just guessing here. You're right, the specs look very similar; if
the pickups are
similar, I can't imagine that they would sound that different. The only
real construction
differences appear to be the ebony fingerboard and gold trim on the HRF.

The Howard Roberts is versatile, but it does sacrifice a little at both
ends of the spectrum.
By that I mean it's a little too sophisticated to be a rock guitar
(although it makes a mean
blues axe), and while the center block helps ward off feedback, it
doesn't resonate quite as
well as say, an ES-175 does for jazz.

Looks like a coin flip to me – in which case I'd try to play any that
are available (if possible)
and choose the one that "speaks" to you. Best of luck. CS

I owned a 576 for a couple of years and now play a Heritage Golden Eagle.
The 576 is an excellent guitar that can be found at bargain prices. I think
that both it and the HRF lack the ultimate in woodiness and warm tone that
you can get with a hollow body, but if you want the feedback resistance of a
semi-hollow and like the slightly more "electronic" sound of these guitars,
they're both excellent.
