I have a Schertler (I forgot the model #. I think it's a Guilla or something). I like it way better than the AER I got rid of. The AER was so sterile sounding. I mostly got it b/c I moved temporarily to Holland, and it has a 220 ohms switch for North European current.

The Schertler weighs 11 lbs., and has a 'warm' switch plus reverb. 50 watts. I bought it from a guy named Greg Ruggiero for $375. Good call...

I'm still using a polytone megabrute (the one with the 8" speaker) and am happy as can be with it. I didn't like the compact 60 when I had it. it was very thin sounding to me and it was too easy to excite the limiter in it. I'm interested in the henriksen every time I see an ad pop up in my Facebook feed, but I'm terrified of the even smaller speaker, and i don't need to spend $1k when my polytone works great and I already own it.

I haven't compared them, but have used the AER for years and am happy with it. It's not a powerhouse, but sounds great with my Heritage 575 and with a decent student classical guitar to which I added a microphonic pickup. 19lbs. Not cheap, but definitely a quality item.

I have the Bud, and the AER 60. doing a side by side compassion the biggest tonal difference between the two amps is the way the top end (treble) is processed. The AER produces a more glassy type sound . While the bud sounds a bit more natural . The lows -the AER with the 8" speaker is perhaps a bit more open sounding , but marginal at best. The Bud holds its own due to the cabinet construction with the 6.5"speaker.
Both amps have two channels; the Bud has individual reverb unit chips for each channel,The AER efx are shared by both channels.
The Bud has an internal 110/220 voltage selector switch /jumper. Not sure about the AER.
I have used both amps in a duo situation with vocals/guitar. The 8" speaker slightly edges ahead but for clarity I would use an external -larger speaker connected to either unit.
Hope that helps a bit,
Skip

what do you use the most? I have had an AER compact 60 for about 12 years. Still sounds good but the effects don't work. I'm thinking of making a change.

Why not get the efx repaired ?

I use both amps all the time, I personally prefer the reverb decay setting on the AER, while I get independent reverb control with the Bud
To my ears ,the Bud has a more natural response, while the AER has a bit more treble crispiness, depends on what you you prefer.

I thought the AER was designed just for acoustic guitar amplification

Yes, but some people like it for archtop amplification. I don't, but I think
a generic guitar/pedal steel guitar amp clean channel is the right thing,
and don't want the high end.

The Bud looks real nice. At 9" x 9" x 9" it's seriously tiny (although heavy
for the size, it's lighter than just about anything else out there). The two
independent channels thing is real nice.

But it's pricey, and I don't want a tweeter, so for the nonce, I'm passing
on it.
