1981 Mini Brute III. I thought it was a plain ol' mini brute - small
and light, but this thing sports a 15" speaker, 160 or so watts and is
around 40lbs. Works great - only has bass/treble/volume,
bright/med/dark switch, line out (which also works fine).

The amp works perfectly and sounds excellent with my pedal board, but
I was expecting a little one.

Oh well, I'll see how she fares.

Well, I'm thinking that a 2" speaker certainly would make the amp tiny, but
probably not have the oopmf I need :)- Seriously spekaing, didn't the orig
MBI have an 8" speaker?

The MBIII is smaller than my Polytone Model 102. In fact, it is the
smallest amp I own and the most powerful, but not the heaviest.

I was playing through it tonight and noticed that there is a dif between
what 10's sound like, 1-12, and 1-15. I will have to play mroe through the
1-15 to see if thta suits my fancy as a guitar player.

The more I play with the amp, the more I like it and like I said, it is the
smallest amp I own.

Josip,

Ha, I now realize that it is a bass amp, but with the med/bright on, it's
an excellent guitar amp; just wasn't the model I expected; i thought it as
a MB-I. That's what you get for not asking the right questions when buying.

Apologies Greg,
Of course what I meant was a 12" rather than 2" speaker, which
methinks is the M/brute II. I have an 80's Brute II, dimensions are
15" high, 14" wide and 10" deep, 30 lbs. The Plate on back of the amp
actually says Mini/Teeny Brute??
If it was 2 inches less wide, it would almost be the size of the RE
One 8 Cab.
I've been using ths Poly for 10 years, Great workhorse.
The smallest Polytone combo is the Mega Brute, I believe, which I
think has an
8" speaker, I'd love to get my hand on that one.

The MBI and II have a 10'' speaker, the MB III and IV have a 12''
I had a MB IV (same as III but with reverb) from about 1993. I worked
fine, but I like the clarus/RE sound better. there is a "nasal quality"
to the PT that I could never get rid of. But a buddy of mine uses that
amp now, with a Heritage 335 style guitar, and he sounds great.

I'm curious about the minibrute with an 8" speaker as a backup/travel amp.
Anybody ever have/play one? How was it? How was the bass?

Thanks in advance,

Hack

Of interest and for discussion , to get rid of the nasal type sound quality
in a PT you could replace the speaker to a Weber or JBL type equivalent. The
spk would be customized as in most cases it would have to be wound to 4
ohms. The tone difference is dramatic.

I think I remembered incorrectly: the MBIII and MBIV have a 15''
speaker, the MBI and MBII Have a 12''(?)

I forgot the name of the one with the 8' speaker. someone here knows
(Rick Ross?)

Was that the megabrute? Geezsch, PT had so many models and so many
variations of the same model that they need a historian to keep it
straigt.

The Mega Brute has 8" but still has about 140 watts, or so, I believe?

I have the MiniBrute V , which also has the 15" ... and a horn.

Hi Skip,
Which Weber models have you tried? Which model is the JBL type equivalent?

I agree with Skip on this one in general, BUT I think that some of the
"honk" comes from the flexiflyer cab and the cheap electronics. I put a JBL
in my MBIV once and it helped greatly, but the "honk" was still there.
(Perhaps if I'd upgraded the wiring while I was at it, I might have been
happier).

I haven't heard the honk, but then agian I've been running my mfx pedal
thru it at medium loud volume. i'll be listeing for it as our keys
player will be using it this weekend at band practice.
