It looks like a good, inexpensive way to get a durable flight case. I
need to buy a couple of flight cases in the near future, and this
appears like it would save me several hundred dollars over the other
possibilities. I'm planning to use the clam case around my existing
hard shell cases.
Anybody have one? Is it as durable as they claim? What's the
disadvantage?
Thanks,
Tim

Thanks, Mike.
Easy opening is an advantage when you're flying these days. You are
not allowed to lock anything. If you do lock it, they will break your
locks to open your case.

I've had one for a while and have flown with it several times now. I think
it's great, especially considering the price. It's lightweight, and does an
excellent job of protecting the guitar; I also use it around my existing
hardshell case. The only disadvantage I can see is that the thing is HUGE.
It's also really clunky looking: I always say it looks like Herman Munster's
guitar case. I was concerned when I first got it that it would exceed the
airlines' allowance for size of luggage, but careful scrutiny of American
Airlines' and Continentals' websites revealed that it's well within their
size limits for checked musical instruments; they actually both allow
greater size for musical instruments that for other luggage. I've yet to
find a car trunk that it won't fit in, so it's not really all that huge.
It's also nice that once you get to where you're going you can ditch the
clam case in your hotel room or wherever and carry your instrument around in
just it's regular case. It's also made flying less stressful for me now
that I don't have to constantly worry about whether I'll get hassled for
bringing a guitar on the plane with me.

Tom:
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll order my cases today.
I'm coming your way next month -- to Naples -- and am looking forward
to some warm weather. We're getting snow yet again here in Ohio
today.

It's actually been pretty cold here by Florida standards; it's been down in
the 50s. BRRRRRR! I know most of you guys are rolling your eyes right now.
