i bought a polytone minibrute iv, one of the older models from the 80s
or something (it just has the bass/treble knobs, and the brite/dark
switch), on ebay this summer, and i had a couple questions about it:
1. what is the difference between the two inputs where it says hi and
low? does this mean you can plug two instruments into it at once or
what, what is its function?
2. why does it say "distortion" above the volume knob? is it some kind
of indicator if the sound is distorted or if there is a way to get
distortion on purpose?
3. what's with the smaller, orange knob on top of the volume knob? it
seems like it can move separately from the volume knob itself, but i'm
not sure if it's supposed to or not. it seems like it clicks into/out
of place when you turn it all the way to the left.
4. what does "reverse" do, if you switch the power switch down instead
of up when you're turning it on?
thanks!
Hi Paul,
I have an old mini brute too. The top input hole is suppose to be for
microphones, but I use it because it gives a out a more intense
sound. The orange knob is the on and off distortion ring. Turn it
clockwise and you get distortion. Keep it turned off, you get a clean
sound. It's a real pain because you have to hold the ring closed in
order to turn up the volume without getting distortion. The reverse
switch, is a polarity switch. If you are getting an electrical buzz,
reverse the switch and the buzz usually goes away. Hope this helps.
Dom
thanks dom! i'm glad that knob is a distortion switch, hopefully that
will explain why i've experienced some distorting and not because i
was pushing the amp too hard (especially since it wasn't even all that
loud).
