When I was at Berklee Earl's brother was there too. Also a guitar player.

I remember he had written a book called "Klughs to The Blues".
Also, at the dorm, while waiting in line at the cafeteria he came around
with a hat filled with slips of paper with different chord names written
on them and asked us all to pick a chord. He was going to be writing
something and wanted to use this random selection method for the changes.

I remember him as being a real good player in the style of Wes or Benson.

Anybody know what ever happened to this guy?

Vaughn is not Earl's brother but rather his cousin. I have his latest cd
titled Chose Love and although I agree that he is a good player (better than
his cousin anyway) I can't say that I hear much influence of Wes or Benson,
as his is a more R&B Motown thing. As for 'what ever happened to him' I
don't know, other than he did some session work with Woody Washington and is
struggling like the rest of us. Not a great player, but a good one anyway.

Well in 1972 *I* thought he was probably into Wes or George. But in 1972
I didn't know about shit or shinola.

Thanks for the update. It's good to know he's still playing.

Joey pleased to Chat
Here is http://www.webspawner.com/users/proklu/
a page about a guy under that name, but a white cat??(on CD cover?)
but from Berklee. I remember Vaughn a couple rooms down on the 4th
floor at 150 Mass Ave Dorms too. Remember? He practiced with a
thermometer in his mouth till right temp was reached. Unusal, but he
was serious. Whenever Earl was in town we'd be visiting his room
often. Cousins as I remember. Don't remember the "Paper in Hat", I
remember Kenwood Dennard(Dr) punching the meal tickets tho,in the
"mystery meat" cafeteria and Kenny Kirkland(Keys) hanging w/ him and
the time they got to play w/ Mingus in the Library.
circa 74 75, geez I satyed till 80.

I know that everyone complains about cafeteria food wherever they went to
school, but, I gotta say, Berklee had the worst cafeteria food imaginable.
Period. Hands down. (I did my time from 85-89). There was a condition we
called "food-stoned"... It was when- after a meal in the cafeteria- my
friends and I would have to go lie down. It was all you could do to make it
back up to your room to collapse on your bed. Luckily each dorm room had
it's own bathroom, since apparently the building (Mass. ave.) used to be a
hotel. (Which is also why some people would show up to class in their
pajamas).. Anyway, I remember once, while I ate my meal, while I kept
waving off one of the massive mutant cockroaches away from my dessert, I saw
a guy, sitting a few feet away, at a table, all alone, with an empty tray,
and a blank look on his face. It was a look of utter helplessness,
powerless, vulnerable. It was plainly evident that he was unable to move.
He couldn't get up out of his chair, nor could he even muster up the thought
of getting up. That was it. Food-stoned. I never found out what happened
to the poor fella.

I just had an ever so slightly better meal tonight between sets at the Ritz
in the employee cafeteria. Goat. Really. pretty decent, but it sits kinda
heavy. You gotta love goat. I like it better than the bull foot soup. You
never know where those bulls have been stepping.

what was this thread about again?

Cool Jay..you sound like an entertainer weaving a story... Ya that
Mass Ave Cafeteria is also where a guy from S. Africa made me promise
to go listen to C. Parker...It was "Salt Peanuts" but only after he
promised to go listen to Duane at Live at the Fillmore East...boy did
my life change(1974)...and the streakers era... ah Room 429 the
bathroom with a window, the check in and out place before you hit that
practice room..the place to wash out bloody reeds
and pick up the wrong size broken strings..ah college days...And the
seedy guy that walked out with the TV one night..I said
thanks...Johnny Carson doesn't help me practice a bit. Then there was
Heminway freedom/lunacy and Marlboro St.
Poor Vaughn couldn't hardly leave his door open for air, I guess most
every one got "smoked" in his room..he had chops.

Congrats on the Island Job, you're sound clips sound nice and
sincere...Wave at the palm trees for me.
