I recently purchased a Hughes and Kettner Montana acoustic amp, it
seems like a well engineered unit and the acoustic sound reproduction is
excellent. This amp has a vocal output aswell which sounds great. Has
anyone else tried one of these Montana's, I think they are fairly new to
the market. I am using Martin thin line gold under saddle
pickups(Fishman I believe)in all my guitars and I get absoulutely 0
feedback and a rich woody acoustic tone. I could not be more pleased
with this amp from what I've experienced so far. Any "other" feedback
would be appreciated.

I didn't realize they made an acoustic amp; I'm interested in hearing a
complete review, definately....

JB, this is my first foray into acoustic amplification so I am hardly
qualified to make any definitive judgements on this amp but I can tell
you it sounds great. Hughes and Kettner have been previously known for
their tube amps as I get it. The amp is quite compact, about the size of
a fender Acoutasonic Junior and weighs 16 kgs 35+ lbs?. Power is 60 W
according to the manual. It has two instrument inputs one of which is
marked warm and the other bright, serial FX loop in and out, vocal mic
XLR input and XLR out for P.A. mixer or recorder or to patch in another
amp or monitor. It has separate volumne controls for the vocal mike and
instrument input aswell as a master volumne control and FX mix control,
paralell FX loop in and out and a head phone jack, tuning for Bass, mid
frequency and level and trebles. Dimensions 19 wide by 17 and 9 deep.
The amp has lots of power but the best thing is the tone, IMHO much
richer acoustic sound than other amps I have tried, a much more real
acoustic sound. The best thing about this amp is that they are selling
for roughly two or three hundred bucks less than say the strawberry
blonde or acoustisonic. All my acoustics sound wonderful through this
amp but all but one of my guitars have the Martin gold undersaddle
pickup. My Wayne Henderson OOO that I traded off of Wade Hampton Miller
also sounds great through this amp and it has a dual source pickup of
some type(I think maybe a Bourgeois). This dual source sounds good when
the piezo and condensor mic are blended properly or when the mic only is
being used but when the piezo only is on it seems harsh, this is
probably just an idiosyncracy of this particular set up. I hope this non
tech overview is of some help to you. You should definitely make an
effort to try this Hughes & Kettner Montana.

I hate "me too" posts, but me too!!

I have used a class A Hughes and Kettner tube amp for my archtops for years and
love it. They make wonderful amps that are very sturdy and sound fantastic.

Thanks for the info; I think I'll check the thing out, if for no other
reason than its a Hughes & Kettner. I really like their tube stuff for
electric guitar.

peace,

jb
