Would anyone have any acoustic guitar tab for the Harry Lime theme - think
it's a Scott Joplin tune; last version I heard was by a Dutch guitarist -
Leo Wijnkamp? on the Kicking Mule label.

Thanks in advance

I think this tune was actually written by the man who played it on the
soundtrack. It was played on a zither by Anton...Anton...(damn, what
was his name...Karras?). And didn't it win the Oscar for best "song"
of the year?

Peter

I haven't seen it in tab either.

I think Stefan Grossman had something to do with Kicking Mule. He has
a website at

http://www.guitarvideos.com

which includes facilities to contact him. In my experience, he is
good at answering questions.

Do you mean the theme song from the movie "The Third Man"? Great film noire

from the 50's. Starred Joseph Cotten and Orson Wells? Used to play it on the
piano, but have never seen guitar tab for it.

The composer and performer of the original song in the fifties was indeed
Anton Karas, here in Vienna. I have heard (some time ago) he still performs
the song every night somewhere for the tourists.
The song was written and performed on a zither not a guitar.

Austrian fingerstyle guitarist Peter Ratzenbeck (whom I believe to be one of
the
best in the world - check out his CDs if you can!) has performed this piece
on
guitar for some time now, and he stated in an interview that it took him a
real
long time to learn it!

has details of a video with Our National Hero Martin Carthy showing how he
does it (he actually plays the tune while listing everything bad about
America if I recall correctly!) - beware though, he's using his patent CGCDGA
tuning ... There may be other possibilities on that website. -- Mark Bluemel

Grossman DID sell a tab of Winjkamp's arrangement at one point, although
separately.

Contact him via the Woodshed at the URL below and see if you can buy a copy.

I LOVE the theme to "The Third Man"! As a matter of fact, (though I
probably shouldn't be admitting this!) I named my guitar after one of the
characters: Holly Martins. That's a GUY, by the way, not a female
character. It's a Martin guitar, so I thought it fit...

I'm just glad I can't actually HEAR the groans!
