Multi-capo artist Don Conoscenti cybercast Jan 13

Don Conoscenti is appearing on Clarie Condra's show on
worldmusicradio.com. The show is cybercast from San Diego, California
from 3-6 pm, Pacific time, and Don will be live sometime between 4-6;
most likely between 4-5.

Don is known for his unusual frailing style of finger-picking and his
outstanding use of multiple capos. In addition to enjoying his guitar

Exactly how many capoes are we talking about here? More than two? Certainly
not six! I'd like to get a better understanding of the entire capo count before
deciding to listen in. Thanks.

I ran into Conoscenti at a Kerrville campfire about 18 months ago and he
was playing some tunes with multiple capos. I suggested that he could
get to the point where he had more capos than strings and he very
seriously informed me that he never used more than three at a time.
He's a very, very fine guitarist and writer who plays, for the most
part, a very hard driving percussive style. Give it a listen.

I shared a bill with Don-Con a while back, after he released "My Brilliant
Masterpiece"--absolutely stunning performer. If truth be told, I was so
enamored with his musicality, I really didn't pay much attention to how many
capos, which tunings, etc.

I'd say that's the mark of a true artist. Check him out. And turn it up! ;-)

Don does have tunes that use up to 3 capos. Fun to muse about as a guitarist,
but quite regardless of his capo trickery, he is a truly outstanding
player, singer, and writer. If you like contemporary singer/songwriter
music along the lines of Ellis Paul, David Wilcox, Shawn Colvin, Patty
Larkin, etc., you really should try to catch a DonCon show.

Probably his favorite capo is of the "Esus" variety; he is a true master
at using that capo. He does most of his multiple capo stuff using
standard (or at least close-to-standard) tuning, relying on the capos
to give the "open" strings the tonality of an altered tuning, while
letting his fingers still have some of the comfort of a standard-tuned
fretboard. I can't think of anyone who does this better. I love
altered tunings myself, but I have to say that it is refreshing to
see an artist get some of the altered tuning effect without having
to wait for constant retuning!
