Hi,
I recently bought a second hand acoustic guitar and would be very
grateful if anybody could provide me with any infos on it. It is an
Asturias cutaway model "SP/U" with nylon strings, serial number 15186.
It once had a built-in pick-up which was gone when I bought it. It
looks like an Asturias Requinto, but it isn't (normal scale plus
pick-up).
A picture can be seen at

It looks like a jazz guitar to me, but I'm not sure, and I didn't
receive an answer to the mail I sent to Rokkomann (the japanese
distributor or manufacturer). I would be grateful for *any* infos on
this guitar. Please excuse any mistakes, since I'm not a native
english speaker.
Thanks in advance,
Anne

Not much help, I'm afraid, but:

From the Blue Book of Guitars, 7th edition ...
===================================
Asturias

Instruments currently built on the island of Kyushu, Japan.
Distribution in the U.S. market by J.T.G. of Nashville, located in
Nashville, Tennessee.

The Asturias Workshops in southern Japan employ seventeen people who
have worked at Asturias most of their lives or have a family
connection. Guided by chief luthier Wataru Tsuji, these luthiers take
great care with their production methods to ensure a quality guitar.
====================================

It sounds like you might have quite a good quality instrument there.

Hi Peter,
thanks for the info. Yes, it's a fine instrument and in very good
shape, and I'm *very* happy with it. Seems to be old, though - I guess
it was made in the 70s.

Hi Anne,
In recent years (maybe early 1990's ) there was some business
relationship between JTG of Nashville and HORABE guitars. Horabe is a
Japanese brand that we see here and there from different music stores.
You might try contacting someone who sells HORABE instruments and see
what you could backtrack and find that is related to the brand you
have.

Good luck

Hi Old Slothead,
thanks for your input, I might try this. Though I don't quite
understand what Horabe and Asturias have in common besides the fact
that they're both japanese brands? Kodaira seems to be the secondary
brand of the Asturias plant.
I read somewhere that JTG of Nashville was the american distributor of
Asturias guitars. But when I went to their webpage I found kind of a
kid's shop and the only instruments they had were baby clappers. ;-)
So far I've found a music shop in the Netherlands which is selling
Asturias guitars, I've emailed them for info. And I've posted to a
japanese guitar forum. But no answers so far. It's kind of funny:
Asturias guitars are well known, but nobody I've contacted as to now
has ever heard of this model or seen it.
Thanks again,
Anne

Well, Anne, it looks like a fun research project. Another source may
be those vendors who seems to specialize in classical guitars. They
would likely have a lead as to where information on specific brands
could be obtained. Some of these specialty vendors place ads in guitar
magazines, such as Acoustic Guitar, and some sell new instruments on
the internet. "GuitarAffects" comes to mind as one I have seen on
ebay. There is a also a forum (similar to RMMGA) for classical
guitar....someone there might be able to light a spark for you ...
Good luck with the search,
Old Slothead

Hi Buz,
sorry, I don't want to sell. I stumbled over this lady at Ebay
Germany, I guess it was a case of rare luck. But you never know... :-)
If you do know anything about the model, I'd be very grateful if you'd
let me know.
Greetings from Berlin,
Anne
