I am trying to find out information on a Martin D19. The serial
number (#123445) indicates that it was made in 1952 and it clearly has D19
stamped on it. I can't find any information on this model anywhere. None
of the local dealers can locate it in their resources. Can anyone help me
determine a fair value for it? Can anyone tell me where to look for more
information? It's in excellent condition with the original case.

Thanks,

Tim...@teleport.com

The serial # doea indicate that the guitar was made in 1952.According to Mike
Longworth's book, the D19 was not introduced until 1976.They were produced from
1976 to 1988.If the soundhole rings are 1-9-1,Black binding top and back &
black back center stripe, then you have a D18.If it has 5-9-5 soundhole rinds,5
ply top binding & chainlink back stripe, then it is a D28.Hope this helps and if
you give me any more info,I will try to indentify it better.

Timmer-

The Martin D-19 is a Martin D-18 with a shaded top. They generally sell for a
little less than D-18's, although they are more rare.

Huh?

Vintage sunburst Martins go for substantially more than blonds.
As far as I know the D-19 was made in 1976 as the previous post stated.
The rarity part is right like an average of ten blonds for every Sunburst.

In "Martin Guitars: An Illustrated Celebration of America's Premier
Guitarmaker" (1997), Richard Johnston reports that style 19 (in D size
only) showed up in 1977 and has a D-28 style rosette(5-9-5), stained spruce
top, and extra white-black lines around the back. Its other features match
the D-18. Hope this helps.

The D-19 wasn't a sunburst, though. It just had a dark-stained (i.e. one
color) top.

Closer in depth inspection reveals that i have failing eye sight
and that the serial number is 423445 (not 123445 as previously indicated)
which makes this a 1980 Martin D19 and easy to appraise. Thank you all
for your help.
