Hi,
I had to work in Gaylord, MI yesterday and there is a music store in that
town. Tom played some Washburn instruments. One of them seemed very nice. It
was a D200SK. We were told that this is a solid wood guitar, spruce top with
flamed maple back and sides. It has a lovely tone and the fit and finish is
very nice. But Tom really liked the wedge at the top were your arm rests. I
couldn't play the thing because of my "Lefty Handicap". Anybody dealt with
Washburn? I'm a Larrivee fan myself and would steer Tom in that direction
but he loves that wedge top.

Maybe i'm wrong, but it seems to me that Tom hasn't tried out many guitars
yet.
Include Tacoma in the list of guitars to try.
I might be biased but I surely like my new Tacoma.

I'm sure i'm not the only one who likes them either from the posts on this
newsgroup.
good luck.

top makes it sound really full, they are easy to mic for recording {probably
get flamed for this} sound better than the neighbor's D28 Martin! Caruso!!

I have a D17SCEN that is the easiest player I have. Solid top with laminates
back and sides. Beautiful guitar, sounds great either plugged in or
unplugged. It might be the "odd one", but it's the one I carry most
everywhere I go. They did get caught a few months ago removing the "Made in
Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc." stickers from their instruments and were fined a
couple of million dollars. But they are still making some pretty good entry
level guitars. Check out their website at www.washburn.com for info and
retail pricing. If it plays good and sounds good, what's the difference
whose name is on it?

We really can't try out many guitars without traveling 4-5 hours one way. We
truly live in a remote area :-) Vicky

Gotta jump in here...having played many guitars over the years I have to say
that:

<< If it plays good and sounds good, what's the difference
whose name is on it? >>

is pretty good advice.

I own an early sixties Martin D-18 (which I love), but also am unashamed to
say I am devoted to my 1991 Washburn J20S. Solid cedar top, laminate sides in
(ostensibly) walnut -- a nice size jumbo body, simply decorated...I've had it
since it was new, with only std. maintenance on set up and such ove the years.
It has aged very nicely and is easily my favorite fingerstyle instrument.

Now, I would never sneeze at a Larrivee, and I'll never tell you I prefer the
sound of my Washburn to some of the high-end instruments it has been my
pleasure to play -- but hey, there's no accounting for what turns you on...I
say it's cool if you love it. My own has certainly been a purchase I haven't
regretted.

It doesn't appear to be much of an acoustic guitar, does it?
