I bought a Martin D16H recently. It is a great mahogany drednaught
guitar. I paid $950 with Martin case. This guitar was made in '93 and
was never sold previously. Now I am getting into classical and may want
to sell the Martin. How much should I expect to get for this guitar on
the open market or on trade-in.

There are many players who feel that the original series
of D-16 guitars, made back when Dick DeWalt was C F Martin
Sales Manager, are, in retrospect, among the finest within
their modest price range, yet most understated, instruments
in Martin's roster. Each year a variant was introduced with
suffixes such as M for mahogany (the most often used wood on
the back and sides of the -l6 series), A for ash back and sides,
K for koa back and sides (390 of them were made in 1986), W for
walnut back and sides (100 made in 1987), H for herringbone trim
(with mahogany back and sides). These were made entirely by
hand, with a more conventional type of scalloped bracing system
under the top, a low profile neck, and matte (satin) finish.
In response to Mr. Gerlach's question, there is no reason why his
guitar can't be sold for more than he paid for it in 1993. I
believe that this model, if it is in excellent and wholly original
condition with hard shell case, would bring $1100 today at retail.

I also have a 1993 Martin D16H, Alas I never play it. This is the
guitar that got me started in building guitars. I now play one of my D
style Trinity Guitars whenever I play a steel string. My Martin is a
great guitar with very little playinng time on it. I think I only had
it for about 4 months before I completed my guitar. I guess I should
sell it some time. It seems a waste to just let it sit in the case. It
is a great guitar! It was very hard to find back in 1993 when I was
looking for one.
