Okay, I need some help here, folks. The people over in James Taylor's
official forum wouldn't answer me. Is that James Taylor singing in the
Glade Candle Scents commercial? (You know the one...acoustic guitar
playing, voice singing "The warmth, the glow, lift my spirits, take it
slow, simple joys, memories made, light up candle scents from Glade." My
apologies for knowing all the lyrics, I really hate myself for it.

My boyfriend insists that it's James Taylor, but I'm not sure. Anybody
know? Any proof? Please help us end a two-month long dispute. Thanks!

That commercial caught my ear too. Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer,
but my best guess is that it's:

(1) Some anonymous singer trying hard to sound like James Taylor, or

(2) Livingston Taylor, who just happens to sound a lot like his brother
sometimes.

I kind of doubt that James would be doing candle commercials. Then again, if
you had told me a month ago that I would be seeing Sting in a Jaguar
commercial, I wouldn't have believed it.

An interesting related question, given the recent Olson discussions on this
newsgroup:

What kind of candles does Phil Keaggy use?

Hey Amanda,I know the ad and have thought the same thing! I don't have the
answer but thought it might be his bro,Livingston-they sound a lot alike. My
imagination just thought"Livingston could probably use the $$!"
Whoever is doing the Glade ad is definitely going for a JT sound alike if
it is not a real Taylor brother doing it!

It sounds like a JT imitator to me. It's just not quite James, but a sound
alike.

Altar candles, the type you have to buy from an ecclesiastical supply house....

Speaking of James Taylor sound alikes, I heard and arrangement of "Getting to
Know You" from The King and I on the radio and it sounded very much like James
Taylor. Does anyone know if this is him? If not, who is it? I had never cared
much for this tune but this was very nice arrangement.

There's a reason it's somebody who sounds LIKE James Taylor. It's his
son. I forget his name...but I saw him interviewed about it on some TV
show. And of course, it's Carly Simon singing at the start of the
commercial. Even though it's a commercial, it's kind of cool how they
fade from her voice to his.

I looked into Livingston Taylor, James' brother. His web site is
www.livtaylor.com. It says in the FAQ that he has done many commercials
for TV...so I'll bet that's him in the Glade ad.

It has been considered acceptable to do voice-overs for quite some time now .
Not in the same vein as doing a commercial like ol' whats-is-name husteling
ford trucks to the extent that it blew what little bit of a carrear he may have
had.
I also believd it is JT's son Ben doing this voice-over.

I'm guessing the variety that burns from both ends. 8-) (Phil has released
more than 6 CDs of new music in the past year!)

Peace & grins,
