Shadow Transducer Pickup SH-200

I just ran across this pickup and it may be just what I need for an acoustic
guitar. It has a volume control and a tone control. Problem is, I no zero
about it and have never heard it. I guess there is no preamp with it.
Anyone have any experience with this pickup?
-TIA

Sorry Buck. I've seen adverts for them, and probably seen them in the
shops, but that's as for as it goes.

Not even any rumours.

Hi Buck,
I have never tried it, but it seems pretty straight forward:
http://www.shadow-electronics.com/viewpro.html?id=&loc=US&Submit1=%3E%3E

According to their mounting instruction page they suggest a low
impedence input for it, so that answers your question: A pre amp will
make it sound much better if your amp doesn't have the low impedence
input.

Could we just go through that again please. My understanding is that piezo
pickups are normally very high impedance, and like to see a high impedance
input. That is why you use a preamp - to bridge the gap between the very
high impedance of the piezo, and the normally lower impedance input of the
amplifier. It also helps with long cable runs. If this one likes a low
impedance input, that is unusual for a piezo and would make it different
from run-of-the-mill piezo bugs. - It means it might not need a preamp to
perform well.

Comments and corrections would be welcome.

Howard.... thanks for opinion. Just checked out your music at your
homepage... Very nice indeed!

By coincidence, a friend who I played with this afternoon was using a
Shadow preamp, a little thing with a cable each end, a short one that
goes into the jack, so that it hangs where you can reach it, and a
longer one to go to the DI.

He wasn't using a Shadow pickup.

I seemed to work pretty well.

Hi Tony,
It does sound confusing, doesn't it:
"Piezo pickups and transducers have a very high output impedance. In
order to get the optimum sound output we recommend an amplifier with
low impedance input."

That's a direct copy and paste from their installation page.

Thanks Howard. That sounds very strange, and quite different from common
wisdom on the topic.
