Got back from the annual gathering in Glen Rose, TX, and recovering
from all the fun. It was a smaller group than usual but plenty of
songs and guitars and talent. We even had my wife's hammered
dulcimer, Al Evans sitting in when needed on bass, and some banjo-
playing. I had my Stella tenor banjo but refrained from exposing it
to others during the song circles.
Al pulled out some oldies but goodies from his early composing (he
started out writing good songs and just got damned good). Cea played
some ole rock and roll along with her 1000 word per stanza songs.
Robert Harding wowed us with the classics, not to mention being
amazing at fills and leads for others. Stan Milam was in splendid
voice and provided us with Rocky Mountain nostalgia. Marcie brought
along a newbie, Becca, who did some great songs and along with my
wife, Sue, harmonized on several songs. Ted and Gary added their
twisted and sometimes borderline sane songs. Raf and Sue came in for
a while on Saturday. John and Clare Bjorkman have worked up an act
that needs to be on stage making money. We're losing them to New
Hampshire soon and they will be sorely missed.
We had Ken Cashion, Mike Rickard, Mike Marquis, and others missing in
action. We took time to remember those who are no longer with us.
They are going to leave a hole in our song circles.
Anyway, I encourage all yall rrmga members to attend Gatherings or
start ones of yer own. There is nothing like the joy and comraderie
of a gathering.

Yeah, us too. It was a beautiful weekend, a little cool. The road from
Austin to Glen Rose is one of my favorite drives, hardly any traffic,
beautiful country, and plenty of wildflowers.
Since it was a smaller group, everybody got to play more, which is
always a nice compensation for not getting to hear the folks who are
missing. There were lots of ad hoc combinations and beautiful harmonies.
I'm almost recovered!
