Should be a great evening, you should always mix with better players
than yourself.

That's not difficult for me.

It should be great fun. I'm guessing that it's an opportunity to
stretch a bit and put your music in front of a group of people, many
of whom have not heard you before, That's great.

I listened to the two clips you have and it's very nice playing. Very
nice. The first one I listened to (MyDadJack) had some phrases (in
the first two minutes, particularly) that put me in the mind of Lyle
Lovett's version of David Rodriguez's "Ballad of the Snow Leopard."
<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tdIkj_DJLQ> I think Lyle really
nails that song -- just about the perfect "folk" song in D. Melissa
Greener has a version of it on youtube as well and she (no stranger to
many RMMGA people and, in my opinion, a really nice and wonderful
person) does it justice as well.

So, count me among those who wish you the best and if you do break a
string while playing, ignore it, keep the time, and move on. Nothing
impresses an audience like a musician overcoming the disability
created by a broken string.

That's a profound statement. A basic truth, in my opinion.

As for your playing, I seem to recall hearing some of it on one or the
other of the CDs we've been through and my recollection is that I
enjoyed your tunes very much. I haven't listened to them for a while,
but I recall your playing and delivery to be very musical and well
suited to the tunes you played. There's a line in the David Rodriguez
song (Snow Leopard) -- "I surely know the songs that suit me best."
And I think that applies.

So, I guess it's summer time down there where the water circles the
drain in the wrong direction, Are you still getting time on the BMW?

Absolutely. Most of what I know and most of what I can do musically is
due to that. Oh, yeah, and some practice. ;-)

Yeah, most of the "guitar nerds" who will be there will have heard me,
but many of those there for other reasons will be new to me.

Thanks, Harold! My Dad Jack will be in the set. Others will be my new
arrangement of Mercy Mercy Mercy (written because I had no "groove
tune"), and LJ's arrangement of The Beatles' "Rain". I don't expect to
break any strings with my playing style, but one never knows! ;-)

I'm glad it worked out well. Such is the kind of thing you want to remember.
Do you suffer from stage fright at all?

Well, not really, at least not in the other parts of my musical life and
career. But in those areas, I feel really competent. Solo guitar is
still pretty new to me. At ordinary gigs, I'm calm and collected. But
playing to a full room, with Laurence Juber standing in the back
watching you, AND you're playing one of his arrangements, is quite a
different matter! But I prepared by practicing my arse off, and it
worked. There were no technical issues to stumble over, so I was able
to play musically to a pretty good degree. It was a really good
afternoon ;-) He was complimentary, and we'll get together in a couple
of weeks to fully debrief. Thanks for your good wishes!
