Home Concert Review (long) Follows"

I found myself home in Colorado for a week
(odd for me) so I decided to take a road
trip. What better place to visit, I thought,
than David and Annie Enke's home in La Veta.

Phoned Annie in the morning and invited myself.
She graciously said "Sure, we'd love to have you".
So I got on my way and 4 hrs later found myself
traveling back through time as I entered the old
and tiny mining town of La Veta. The town is only
about 6 blocks long. Once I turned off the only
paved road onto their street, it was easy to
find their house. Look throught the windows to
see instruments hanging all over the walls.

We had a most wonderful time! We drank Fat Tires,
played with drums, drank more Fat Tires, played
with guitars, drank more Fat...you get the picture.

Annie showed me her incredibly detailed, tiny wooden
scroll cut F style mandolin replicas. You have to see
these things! Imagine an F style mando about 2" long
complete with arch top and scrolls on the bout and
headstock. She also does incredible MOP and abalone
work. Her beautiful artwork adorned several of
David's hand made instruments.

David has an incredible collection of instruments.
Besides guitars and basses there are bari-guitars,
mandos, mandolas, tipples, sitars, franken-strato-
violin-mando things, drums, wind instruments and
some really odd card table, multi player dulcimer
thing that I can't wait to see played by four of
us.

After we ate Annie's wonderful Lasagne (and drank
more Fat Tires) the fun started up all over again.
Now here was an interesting local practice in the
tiny town of of La Veta. Apparently some of the
locals know that David and Annie know and work
with some famous musicians. So it seems the locals
drive by and peer into the huge windows of the
house whenever someone is there playing. Sure
enough, midway through the night a caravan of
pick up trucks drove by. Hard to tell if they
were looking for stars, but I did my best
to look like someone famous.

It was the most wonderful road trip I've taken
in ages. Wonderful hospitality, great lasagne,
and all those instruments!

Thanks to -
