To Terry at Tacoma:

Here's an idea.

You should start writing a HISTORY OF TACOMA GUITARS book, to compete with the
one Mike Longworth wrote about Martin. It doesn't have to be truthful, just
colorful: "Tacoma Guitars was founded by Axel Friedrich von Tacoma, who
emigrated from Westphalia, Germany, in 1848, to a sleepy little rain-sodden
village south of Seattle. Soon the thriving town changed its name from
"Eternal Rain and Mudville" to "Tacoma," in honor of the beloved luthier and
his wonderful guitars...

Just kidding.

I like the idea. A Tacoma Guitars Book--- complete with bio and rap sheets on
the management. Could be dangerous!

Discount what George Gruhn says about Tacoma guitars, although they are
fine instruments for what they are(Low cost solid wood guitars, most anyway)
Mr. Gruhn is biased as he one of their major stockholders.Everyone has an
angle.

Not me, I just love them.

If I had money, Tacoma guitars are sure something I would invest in.
He might be biased because he is a shareholder, or maybe he is a
shareholder because of how he feels about the guitars.

Just a thought......

I missed whatever it was that George Gruhn said about
Tacoma guitars. But I'll just say that I'm impressed with
their overall product line at the prices that they're charging.

Are they Martin quality? Nope. Are they worth what they
cost? Easily, especially the Papoose and Chief models.
There is literally nothing else on the market like the
Chief - a solid wood American-made instrument at a
plywood import price. Plus it's an exceptionally innovative
design. It's nice to see something that actually advances
the design of the acoustic steel string, instead of being yet
another tired old Martin rip-off.

If I was in my early 20s and looking to buy my first decent
acoustic guitar and wanted one that would sound good and
be a babe magnet besides, I'd buy a Chief. No question.
Not everyone can relate to their radical looks, but I think
they're SMOKIN'. My buddy Humberto Saucedo has one,
and when we play it next to my Mark Stanley archtop it's
almost as loud and easily attracts as many women running
their hands over it as the archtop does. (You think I'm
making this stuff up, but I'm NOT.)

If you can't find one locally, Elderly has the Chiefs at a
very friendly price. (www.elderly.com)

Has anyone played the PM models, the small bodied-deep depth instruments that
Tacoma makes?I heard one last week that sounded and looked good, but was unable
to compare it with anything in the same general size.I wonder how it compares
to Martin's OO16DB which is basically the same size.Any opinions would be
welcome,Thanks.

There is a major error in this thread that I want to correct. George Gruhn owns
no stock in Tacoma. He is a design consultant only. There are no stockholders
in Tacoma, otherwise I would be buying it.

Isn't Tacoma (not the city) owned by Samick? Someone told me this a
while ago.

Tacoma Guitars is absolutely not owned by Samick. We are a division of the
Young Chang America timber company which makes soundboards, Keys and other
piano parts for Young Chang piano. That comapny is owned by the Kim family
entirely.

Responding to a rumor that the Tacoma Guitar Company
is owned by everybody's favorite world-dominating Korean guitar company,
Samick, blushing violet and Tacoma spokesman Terry Atkins replies:

>Tacoma Guitars is absolutely not owned by Samick.

I think the confusion arose because it's a goal of the Tacoma
Guitar Company to, maybe, some day, MAKE guitars as
good as Samick guitars. Right, Terry?

Was the Tacoma Cheif manufactured in 1998 using a Cedar top and the BOA top? I have a 1998 model and the top looks extremely dark for cedar.

Hi All - Would someone kindly tell me the history
of the Tacoma C3C. Was it manufactured under Fender’s ownership ? I just purchased one online and I’m waiting for the serial # to be sent to me.
It has some minor lacquer problems on the side that my local luthier in New Orleans can possibly correct. Otherwise it looks to be in really good condition. Thanks much !

Thanks much John T - Big help with those sites. Now I’m researching how to repair the minor lacquer repair. Can’t wait to speak with my luthier bright and early Monday morning !
Much obliged,
Luzine
