A few weeks ago, and with great trepidation over spending that kind of money
on anything other than a guitar, I put out the price of a fairly decent axe
on a sailboat. Well after a boatless decade, and the only boatless time of
my life (although this is only my second sailboat), I really do feel like I
need some sea time.

Now I don't want to cause undue concern to anyone (yeah right). I have a
knockaround Yamaha FG-something-or-other that can accompany me on overnight,
or more extended trips. However, I AM of the firm belief that any time, not
devoted to guitar playing, is probably grossly misspent. With that
philosophy in mind, I'm hoping to plumb the creativity of the group for
suggestions for a guitar related (or at least guitar music related) name for
my new vessel. My kids and I have come up with a long list of musical
ideas; but we feel like we're coming up short in the guitar category.

Our guitar related ideas so far:

Flat Pick
Pickin' and Grinnin'
Not Pickin'
Notaguitar
Otter B. Pickin'
Resophonic
Guitarzan
Dadgad
Gypsy Jazz

Some (I won't list all) of the musical name ideas:

Wind Instrument (only one of these in the USCG Registry, believe it or not)
Zydeco (Well used, but I still like it)
Diddy-Wah-Diddy (Song titles could be OK)

Thanks all,

Jeff Holston

Arf, arf, arf..... Man, you just don't find humor like that anywhere else.

To this date, the best name for a sailboat I have ever heard is my dads...
"Half Fast"
(say it quick, slurring the words together) But that doesn't fit the
category.

I love Resophonic. Mostly because you just know that it's going to have
a whole bunch of people saying: "What the hell is *that*?"

And then you'll get to tell your tale. Do you have "glittering eye"? A
skinny hand, and a long beard? Is there a wedding nearby? Yes?
*Priceless!!

Bwaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! The beer that just spewed from my nose caused me GREAT
discomfort.

I'm gonna propose a new RMMGA inside joke/expression signified by a TLA
(Three Letter Acronym): BSK, to mean Beer Soaked Keyboard. Does the inner
circle have to take a vote on something like that? I hope they'll waive the
suggestion fee since I've already had to supress some GAS in order to deal
with my nautical needs.

I remember, from years back, a T-shirt that read "I'm not slow. I'm not
fast. I'm half-fast". It was popular among yachties at about the same time
as another one that said "No Friggin' in the Riggin'."

Since my wife and daughters will have to approve whatever moniker I end up
selecting, it may not end up saying guitar player all over it. However, I
have high hopes that the crowd here will come up with something classic that
has evaded me.

I like "GAS Money". On top of being appropriate for a sailboat, that
purchase will end up causing some slippage in the targeted buy dates of my
whole "gotta have that guitar" list.

How big is this sailboat ? The title 'dreadnaught' was originally
applied to a class of ships.....
There are a variety of spellings.

My favorite boat name comes from the Buster Keaton film 'The Boat' ,
made in 1921, (I think) however it is not guitar-related:

"Damfino"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
" I`d dance with you Maria, but my hands are on fire " - Bob Dylan

" We had a knob, and all we had to do was turn it." - Les Paul

I wasn't familiar with it so I did a quick web search. Interesting boat!
Quite a heritage, too, coming off the design board of Lyle Hess. I like a
number of his designs.

Good luck with the name. Splash a little bubbly on the bow for me when you
christen her!
