Black body & white pickguard.
On Head stock it says HONDO II "The Professionals" made in japan.
I know its a dog, but I may as well get to know its little ways seeing as it
is living with us from now on.
Regards Alan.
I'm not sure if I can help you out, but I searched my files and the
closest thing I could found was a "Professional'" series of
instruments that included a lot of copies of American guitars.
They say 'Hondo II' and "Professional" on the headstock. My
catalog dates from 1981 and I do not know anything about Hondo
serial numbers.
Distribution in the U.S. at the time was done by:
IMC (International Music Corporation)
P.O. Box 2344
Fort Worth, TX 76113
(817) 336-5114
They still may be in business and might be able to help you out.
Good luck!

1980 or 81 would be about when I got my Hondo II "Professional" MIJ Tele
copy too. Seems to have been a short-lived model line. Gone by the
middle 80's for sure.

So Alan you've got a "vintage" axe now. Twenty years of mojo have been
absorbed into the body. Anyone who puts your guitar down is probably
someone with a new custom shop Strat who's worried that the acoustic
resonance of his new, much more expensive, axe has not reached maturity
yet.

Seriously, it might be roughly equal to a MIJ Fender from 10 years
later. If yours isn't damaged or different from what I think it is, it
could be a player.

Cetainly old enough to have all the the 'bad' notes played out of it
by now? Could be a 'keeper'?
IIRC Hondo were decent budget guitars before the big names got into
that sector. Don't know if 'Professional' would denote any upper scale
hardware, but names are cheap if they sell more guitars?
