For some time now, I am trying to find out which kinds of woods are
suitable for the block of recorders. Normally the answer people give
me is CEDAR. Unfortunately cedar is the name for an enormous variety
of trees. Those trees only have their smell in common.

Can someone tell me what kind(s) of cedar is best.

Thanks,

The Von Hune ? (probably didn't spell that right) recorders I've seen use
aromatic cedar. It's easy to identify by its strong smell (compared to the
other cedars). If you can find the scientific name or more identifying
features I'd like to know. Also if there are more than one type of
aromatic cedar I'd like to know.

The wood is (Florida?) pencil cedar.
