I'm looking at building an 8 (10 or 12, if I can find the bridge) string
bass this summer (fretless) and I was wondering If there is too much
difference between the sound of the EMG DC45 and comparable Bartolini
humbuckers (~$125). I lost my Bart. catalog, but I remember them having
a triple coil Music Man style pickup, as well as some other humbuckers.
The main thing here is that I need a six string pickup (or wider if it's
a 12) and, because of the weird string spacing, it needs to be a bar
magnet design, as opposed to polepieces.

If anybody has a phone number ot the name of a dealer for Warmoth, that
would really help, too. Thanks.

I recently went through the same decision. What made it easy for me was
the fact that no one at all had Bartolinis. Many outfits were dealers,
but they all were starving for pickups. Finally I decided "to hell with
this", and arranged for some 45DCs. They should get here soon.

I had a Bartolini catalog about a year ago. Man, they had some cool
stuff in there. I never actually ordered any pickups, so I'm not sure
how available they were diretly from Bartolini, but if I find it again,
I'll call and ask and see how their stock is.

I have a Gibson EB-2 Bass, and EPI LP Bass. The major difference (other
than bolt/glued neck) are PUs. The Gibson has active Barts, the EPI EMG
Select passive. I think the EMG are a little less harsh than the Barts.

Another option, rather than compromise with EMGs because of what
a pain it is to deal with Bartolinis is order a set of Alembics

they are great pickups, and they include an activator kit, should
you wish, which replaces all the electronics. And, they are nice
to deal with and ship quickly.

I took an old jazz, and put the Alembic Jazz set in with the
Alembic activator active electronics, (also replaced the neck
with an Warmoth ebony fretless), what a great bass, which I'll
sell if someone should wish a

Hmmm, same thing happened to me. I put a set of 45DC's into an Ibanez 1306
6-string, because the EMG's were in stock at the luthiers, and I'd heard horror
stories about the wait for Bartolini's. I'm thoroughly pleased with the EMG's,
though, they're punchy and warm. Makes the Ibanez sound like a 6-string
stingray. And this is with just passive EQ.

Hey fellow bassists,
I was wondering if anyone out there has a schematic diagram for a
Polytone Mini Brute I. Mine was purchased years ago in a pawn shop, and it
has faithfully served as a fine practice/small gig amp. Recently it has
developed an awful sound (like constant square waves, extremely loud). I
thought it may be a short, but all wiring checks out. It must have a fried
component. If someone has a schematic, please e-mail me, and I'll send you
some cash for mailing costs, copy costs, and your trouble. This Mini Brute
I is black, w/ a 10inch speaker, and it's rated at 100W.
Thanking you in advance,
CHil...@aol.com (Carl Hillman)
