What tunes are played for the Lilt and Flora McDonald? Its been so long
since I played for dancers, I am having a hard time remembering these
two.

Thanks, Don

Don,

The Flora is usually danced to the 'Battle of the Somme', and the Flora to
'Atholl Highlanders'.

Hi Don

The most common tunes played for the dances the Lilt and Flora are Battle=

of the Somme and Atholl Highlanders. For the Lilt however you are suppose=
d
to play a 9/8 Jig according to the Dance text books - a tune like the
Foxhunter would work but most dancers are used to the Battle of the Somme=
=2E
The Flora - any 6/8 like Atholl Highlanders that suits the dance is OK.
Sometimes it's good to start with the familiar and then switch to somethi=
ng
different - like Col Robertson...If you are playing in a competition for
dancers and plan to use alternate tunes you could play your selection as
the dancers are getting ready and lined up....
