Depending on the Church, there may be limitations on the type of tune you
play- The music may have to be "liturgically appropriate"- there are
several hymns that fit well i9n this category,of copurese, including "The
King Of Love My Shepherd Is".
Other processionals: Rose of Kelvin Grove, Highland Cathedral, Cailin mo
Ruinsa, numerous slow marches, including Skyeboat song- often requested,
as is Road to the Isles. Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms.
I have had requests for all of these at weddings- the first two because
the brides heard them either on cd's or at other weddings- the latter
because they knew them and liked them. I would suggest you talk to the
piper who will play your wedding, and to the clergyman or music director
of the church where the wedding is to take place, if it is to be a church
wedding.
Recessionals are considered to occur after the service has ended, so
Liturgical Appropriateness is not a consideration- Mairi's wedding is a
popular choice, but any somewhat up-beat tune would work. If it's my
choice I usually play "the Sweet Maid of Mull, and then segué into other
6/8's once outside the church.
TIP: IF you're not overly familiar with pipe tunes and want some ideas,
though, get a copy of a Cd entitled " Abaide With Me,- Hymns of Faith" by
the $8th Highlanders of Canada or "Amazing Grace- All time Bagpipe
Favorites" by the same band for a good overview of tunes. Abide With
Me..." has several wedding-type tunes on it.

I agree, but I also like The Mermaid Song and The Gathering for
processionals and Ode to Joy for the recessional. Twice I've been
requested to play Scotland the Brave as the recessional.
I also find it amusing (to myself) to stand outside the church as the
crowd comes out and play The Mucking O' Geordie's Byre.

"Clumsy Lover" at the end of the evening is often appropriate!
Philip Mair
"Clumsy Lover" seems like a natural choice or maybe since the name Ian
means John in English you could use the tune "John's Old Lady" (Sorry Lorie
Gaudet).
