Quebec Riots

[IX Corp]

A friend told me he saw a picture of the recent World Trade riots in
Quebec. There was apparently a gas-masked "mad piper" playing tunes to
encourage the rioters and police to feats of rioting and policemanship.

Anyone have a link to this?

Well after seeing it, I would say he wasnt really a piper. Look at the oufit?
Shoes look like womans pumps, hose are almost around his ankles, and his kilt
(if its a kilt) hangs between his knees and ankles making it a skirt. Looks
more and more like... KIEFFER! Where were YOU on that day???

I think that the measure of a piper in that situation is not the line of his
kilt, but rather if he inspired his compatriots. Don't know much about the
North American trade summit myself so I wont defend the guy, but I think
it's cool that he had the guts to go out there like that.

Never seen spats before, eh? I wore them all through my high school and
college brass band days, and when I first started piping. How I hated
them! Glad they're mostly out of fashion these days - lots of trouble and
uncomfortable to boot. Given that you've apparently misidentified where
his feet are and given the angle of the shot, his kilt looks like it may be
about right or only a little low, the right side does look lower but I think
that's the angle and the fact that he's got his right foot in the air.

Could be, but it looks pretty ragged to me. Besides, how could you play with a

Amazing! Well, this begs the question, how does he play and use the gas
mask effectively. Seems like you could either have the mask on or play but
not both. Is there a special military spec gas mask just for pipers?

Not related, but I've seen several "black watch tartan" pipes for sale on
ebay. After looking at the pics, I must assume that the person selling them
thinks that "black watch" means a solid black bag cover, since all the
"black watch" pipes have solid black covers. Pretty sorry way to do
business...

After looking that pic over again, I still say its no piper. Look at the
back of his cute little skirtie hes wearing? His legs at a 45' angle, yet
the kilt is hanging down low enough to be resting on his leg, no camera
angle involved. The shoes are some kind of platforms or womans clogs like
I've never seen on a man (well, once on Kieffer, but the jurys still out on
him/her/it's sexual orientation, so its too early to call that one.)
All he needs is a cute lil' red plaid pocketbook to go along with his
ensemble LOL!

I do, and they were red and black. Drummers wore The red and white
ones. Here's a link to a shot of half the 3rd battalion band in
Montreal in 1969. It was a stormy night and only the dedicated showed
up.
