Issue 9 Contents
Piano feature: Dave McKenna's Rose Room
A transcription and stylistic analysis by Dr. Joel Simpson. We heartily welcome Joel as a contributing writer. He plays jazz piano and sings funny songs in the New York area, having lived and performed in New Orleans for the past 27 years. He is the author of Blues By You-the Direct Route to Piano Improvisation (Hal Leonard), and the producer of Dick Hyman's Century of Jazz Piano CD-ROM (for Windows and Mac), available from his website. We highly recommend this 2-CD set for anyone interested in the history of jazz piano in the 20th century - not only is there a wealth of historical information, stylistic analyses, midi files, etc., but there are also incredible historical videos of such great performers as Eubie Blake, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Bill Evans, Fats Waller, and a ton of others. Check out the demo and order the program at http://www.jssmusic.com

________Why “Woodsheddin”?________

wood.shed n. v. shed-ded, -shed-ding n. 1. A shed for keeping wood for fuel v.i. 2. Slang to practice a musical instrument assiduously and with a specific goal in mind: He’s woodshedding for next week’s show [wood+shed]

People go “to the woodshed” to improve their musical skills through practice. People go to The World Wide Woodshed to improve their skills faster, while they have more fun. Here, we  specialize in computer-based learning tools that are enjoyable to use and that have a significant impact on their musical skills away from the computer - in living rooms, garages, studios and stages.

This newsletter will be focused on the same goals: to talk about practicing, ear-training, and education. We'll review software, point you to the best shareware and freeware, give you tips and enjoyable articles, and "print" your letters. And of course, we'll keep you informed about new updates and other downloads for both our freeware and commercial products.

We'd like to be a locus of activity where people can come for good talk and resources about a thing that interests us immensely - playing or singing better!

We invite your suggestions and editorial contributions. Please send e-mail to edi...@worldwidewoodshed.com to communicate about these things.
