"Lark in the Morning" advertises software which will slow down a recording to
half and quarter speed, but it's only for the Mac. Does anyone know of similar
software for Windows?

Paul,

Macromedia's "SoundEdit" will do this. I'm pretty sure that they have
a Windows version.

My SoundEdit came with my Macromedia Studio package. You can buy it
separately, too, but if you do Director-type development and want a
REALLY GOOD digital multitrack recording tool I highly recommend Studio.
The multitrack recorder is called "Deck II" and for me it's worth the
price of admission itself.

There's a shareware program called CoolEdit that will slow down
recordings. It results in some degradation of quality, but for learning
it's very good--the pitch stays constant. You can also adjust pitch,
transposing keys. It's quite inexpensive. I don't have the url for the
website from which you download it, but search for it or Syntrillium,
which is, I think, the name of the software company the produces it.
