I know several people (Open-class pipers) who play Gibson drones. I am
highly impressed with the sound they are putting out. Very full and rich.
Several good bands are playing Gibson chanters, notably City of Detroit and
North Coast in the U.S. The chanters are a little higher-pitched than I
like (I play a 1985 Sinclair for solo and plastic Shepherd with the band),
though I have a 1995 Gibson too - it's bright and lively and balanced, just
too different in pitch vis-a-vis my other chanters. Can't say anything
about Booth, but you won't go wrong buying Gibsons.

Question - have you been getting criticism on your Booth pipes or are you
just looking to upgrade as a general improvement?

Tim,

My name is Phillip Burk. Nora (my wife) and I just opened our own
business named:

Celtica's Call:
Bagpipes of the Isles
2432 Firstview Drive
Loveland, Colorado 80538
Ph: (970) 593-0531

I am a grade 2 piper in Colorado and I play Gibson Half Silver Pipes. I
am so pleased with them that Nora and I decided to sell them. Jerry
Gibson has made us the exclusive dealer for his pipes covering many
states.

I am not familiar with David Booth's pipes so I can't give you an accurate
answer to your question. there are many good pipes on the market but I
feel that my Gibsons are GREAT! I also play Gibson's Fireside Pipes which
have great tone and balance. Jerry Gibson has modeled his GHB's after the
OLD Henderson and MacDougals and I feel he has the best tone and harmonics
available in todays bagpipes. Choosing a set of pipes is hard if you are
just starting out and havn't developed an ear for the tone and pitch of a
good quality set of pipes. Ultimately it has to be your choice because
you will be playing the pipes and you need to be pleased with the sound.
I would suggest listening to several sets of various makes to make your
final decision.

Call me anytime at the above number or E-Mail me at PMP...@aol.com. I
will be glad to give you my background without trying to make a sale.
It's your decision, not mine or anyone else's.

Phil Burk
