Hello, Bagpipers!

I have just found out that the only known recording of the piobaireachd =
"The Desperate Battle" or "The Desperate Battle of the Birds" (from the =
recording, "John Burgess, King of the Pipers") is no longer available. =
Is there anybody out there who has this recording and would be willing =
to tape the tune for me? I would be most happy to reciprocate in some =
way, either to send a blank tape or pay for the costs of a tape and =
postage.

Thanks very much in advance!

Mark Puckett

"John Burgess King of the Highland Pipers" is on CD from Topic Records Ltd,
number TSCD466 and came out in 1993

Mark,

I am sure there is at least one other recording of this tune. If I recall
correctly (I'd have to go dust off the LP stack to be sure) it was also on
Seamus MacNeill's "Purely Piobaireachd" recorded in the early/mid 1970s.
Nice picture of Seamus on the front with a leopard-skin bag cover!

I doubt that it's available on tape or CD right now but my turntable might
still work enough to copy it to tape if you'd like . . .

Chris,

You can also find "The Desparate Battle.." in the recording, released in
1994 by Temple Records as a CD, of the Dysart & Dundonald PB,
entitled(oddly enuff) D&D PB, Live in Concert, Ballymena, 1983. P/M R.T.
Shepherd. The whole bloody band does (most of) the tune, and a good blow
they give it .

Steve.
