This Christmas I took some British friends to Iran for a
visit. Although I had great misgivings about the whole
thing, I was surprised beyond my wildest dreams. They loved
it! During our visits, I took them to a good friend's
birthday party and that night my friend's daughter sang the
Mara Beboos for us.

I am not ashamed to admit that (and many of you will
understand) I was moved to tears. Naturally, my friends
wanted to know what the song was about. I tried to translate
the lyrics but I somehow felt my translation did
not do any justice to the song (I am only an engineer!).

Is there anybody out there who knows of a good translation
of Mara Beboos? If not, can one of the learned gentlemen
(I am not being sarcastic!) out there try to translate the
song please, please, please?

I feel that this song is one of our national songs and
perhaps in the same rank as Ey Iran. It would be a shame if
we could not share it with non Farsi speakers.

Looking forward to your replies,

Regards

I am by no means a "learned gentlemen" but I will
give it a try anyway. Here is my attempt at a
translation. It may not be 100 percent accurate
but it is pretty close.

Enjoy!

======== Kiss me ===========================

Kiss me
kiss me
For one last time
May God be with you
For I go toward my destiny

Our spring has passed
The bygones are bygones
I am in search of destiny

In the midst of storm, among boatmen
One must move forward, at the risk of life
In the dark of the night I meet with my beloved
To light up the mountains with fire

I travel in the dark of the night
I travel on dangerous roads
Look, my flower
Don't cast the seed of sorrow
Upon me

Kiss me
Kiss me
For one last time
May God be with you
For I go toward my destiny

Our spring has passed
The bygones are bygones
I am in search of destiny

Pretty girl
I am your guest tonight
I will stay with you
To press your lips against mine

Pretty girl
The sparkle in your eye
Your innocent tears
Light up my night

Kiss me
Kiss me
For one last time
May God be with you
For I go toward my destiny

Our spring has passed
The bygones are bygones
I am in search of destiny

Dear Rouben,

Many many thanks, you have done a lot better than I could
ever do! You have made my day.

God bless, and thank you again.
