I wouldn't normally waste bandwidth with replies to questions that are
easily answered in the FAQ, but when I last checked, the FAQ did not include
one possible meaning for the name that I heard from possibly the BEST
source...
I read an interview with En Esch in which he explained that he now
preferred that KMFDM stand for "Kalte Melkerhamde fier die Milchkuh"
which basically translates as "The cow stands in fear of the milkmaid's
cold hands" [germans please excuse my poor german - I think I might be
screwing up the exact german wording (I can't recall the exact german
wording and I don't have the article handy right now, but
I'm quite sure of the translation]. I think that's fantastic, personally.
Later in the same interview, Esch explained further (as he always has) that
the name means anything you want it to, although Kein Mitleid fur Die
Mehrheit [doesn't that translate better as "No pity for the masses"?] was the
first 'official' meaning which he and Sascha now find too grim.
Also, the name has some sort of numerological meaning as far as I understand.
It's got five letters and it's supposedly not a coincidence that the
major releases (ie: singles are excepted) all have five letter names
(What Do You Know Deutschland being commonly referred to by the band as
"WDYKD") as well. I'm not entirely sure how this works however, so I'll
shut up.

a mail interview i did with him that it originally stood for
