yes it also appears on demos and remixes but i dont believe that this
proves wether or not the original wax trax release of 100 homoD.J.'s
supernaut is sung by jourgensen or reznor or the tvt rerelease for that
matter it seems like quite a debate has developed of this disagreement my
point is how can we ever be sure we may have our theories and reasonings
but can we ever knowfor sure?

IT DOESN'T MATTER (ahem) hated to scream, but I don't give a damn whether
trent or Al sang the damn song - it's a good song who ever sings it.
Bickering about which version is which and how collectable your Halo 00 is
now should be left to whining NINnies and Ministry worshippers.

trent sang the initial release. i know this because i
happened to be there whilst it was going on. the now
defunct rights of the accused did guitars and drums.

It wasn't the original Wax Trax release, just the original version. It
never got legitimately released until now (in the box set) because of
contractual problems Reznor ran into with TVT. Obviously, now that TV T
and Wax Trax have "mergered" there isn't that much of a conflict anymore.
Wax Trax themselves have advertised that Reznor is on vocals in the ads
for Black Box, so I don't see why you're having such a hard time believing
this....
Then why in the hell does it say on the wax trax sampler that it is
Trent you stupid mother fuckers. And that is the original version!

Trent sang on the original version of the song but couldn't get an o.k.
from TVT for Wax Trax to release it. This ceased to be a problem when
the 2 (TVT, Wax Trax) merged (or whatever it is you want to call it).
DOn't be a shithead! Check your info before pretending to be such
a know it all. Trent originally recorded Supernaut with
1000 homo dj's but TVT records wouldn't allow him to appear
on it because of contract obligations. Now that TVT has bought
WAX TRAX records (homo dj's record label) it has been
re released on a box set
Dave
I got so sick of seeing all these damn posts on a.m.nin that I decided to
spill the beans about what really happened with the "Supernaut"
controversy. Keep in mind that I don't own Black Box yet, so I don't
know what's in the booklet about this song, but this is going from an
interview done with Al Jourgensen a few years back.
Essentially what happened was that Trent sang and played guitar on
Supernaut for 1000 Homo DJ's. TVT found out about it, and ordered that
his vocals be taken off because it was in his contract that he only
record for TVT. By this time, the Wax Trax Sampler #2 had already gone
out with the Trent vocals, but they recut the track for the Supernaut
official release. That's what they say. In an interview a few years
ago, Al said that when they got ordered to recut the vocals, he just went
into the studio and remixed the vocals in order to make them deeper and
sound less like Trent. So, technically, it is Trent Reznor on both
versions, one just sounds a little different.
Yes, I am fully aware that the Supernaut release says that Buck Satan is
on vocals. So what?
I'm outta here...
Nick
oh yeah, prove that al sings!
disclaimer: the above statement was a joke
there is a problem brewing here. if anyone has actual proof(i.e. tangible
evidence) that trent sang on supernaut, then that person(those people) should
post his/her sources. this would prevent the problem from exploding.
simple.
if no one has a verifiable source, then everyone debating this topic should
either shut up and accept the fact that al sings on supernaut, or present
constructive reasoning behind his/her stance that trent sings on supernaut.
simple.
"don't be so stupid"-piggy
You are 100% moron. Go out and buy the EP entitled '1000 Homo DJ's -
Supernaut' and find out who is singing. Is it Trent as the poster tells you?
No, it is not, it is AL FROM MINISTY.
There is no fucking debate on original versions, otherwise we'd see some
other asshole posting that it was really a Black Sababth song to begin
with.
>Dave
Great, another fucking Wendy's freak.

This is an interesting claim to make considering that Trent had no contact
with Al until the 'Broken' sessions, and if my memory serves me well
those sessions were the first in which they collaborated (the work later
edited out due to contractual pressures mainly from TVT).
How can say this when there is an obvious time difference preventing it
(unless you can now prove that time travel has become a reality)
Next time have some part of an article as proof of such ridiculous claims.
Troy
I just thought I would clear this up.
If you were to hear the two versions, you can hear the major differences, trent with his 'voice just changing' voice-cracking lyrics...as opposed to al jourgensens lower voice.. and al's isn't as whiney, either.
As my first post didn't seem to make it through, I will again say,
I happened to be there. Trent was there. Al was there. Wes/Brian
from ROTA were there. Other's were there. It just so happens that
Trent DID do the vocals on the INITIAL version <Read: The version
that didn't get released>.
That initial version was on a Waxtrax sampler a few years back.

Well then! here we are , back where we started..
1) The ORIGINAL version was sung by Black Sabbaths vocalist..(!)
2) The song (Supernaut) is therefore also available on the
'Nativity in Black'-BlackSabbath-tribute-CD..
----> 1000 Homo DJ's featuring Al Jourgensen of Ministry.
3) Ministry did the tune live, as a medley with some of their own
tunes, and thats available on the lollapalooza-bootleg from
1992 (?) and my guess is that on THAT one Al is singing..
4) There is a rumour that Trent in fact played guitar on the
Supernaut-tune.. well, one of them atleast..
5) This shitty flamewar is a pain in the butt..
6) It's a great cover-version of the Black Sabbath-song
could we leave it to that??

Umm....I don't know about that claim. If you look at the liner notes to
the Sin single, you'll notice that Mr. Jourgensen is credited with
production credits on "Get Down Make Love". That means that Trent and Al
met around 1990 when that song was recorded. I don't recall Trent ever
having worked with Al on the Broken sessions...check the liner notes again.
In the Broken liner notes, there is no mention of Al, Alien, Alan, Alain
(Jourgensen) or Buck Satan.
The Sin single is copyrighted in 1990, so it would mean that they could
have met in time to record Supernaut...

The Black Sabbath version is a cover/interpretation of an old tune by Jim
Reeves. So the original version was indeed sung by "Lonesome Jim
Reeves"....

: oh yeah, prove that al sings!
I don't know if this will clear things up or fuck them up, but I think I
know where some of this misunderstanding comes from. If you look in the
jacket of the homo dj's cd, it says that Buck Satan (Al) sang. I have a
version of "Supernaught" where trent does sing, but it's not the one we're
talking about. It's on Halo 00 which is a pre-phm demo with "Supernaught"
and "Suck". Possibly some of you heard this one and thought it was the
other one. I don't know, there are a lot of versions of this song going
around.

EEEEEEEEEHHHHT! WRONG-O, piggy! Halo 00 is from 1990. It's NOT pre-phm. The
guitar solo on "suck" is UNMISTAKABLY rich patrick's (and if you don't know
what I mean by that, listen to "suck" on _broken_ about 600 times. That is
Trent's guitar playing. Rich Patrick's is the stuff on Halo 00's "suck." If
you don't believe me on the boot date, consider that "supernaut" (FOR
CHRISTSSAKES, learn how to spell the fucking song title!) was done up in '90
as well. And if you remember the Alternative PRess article in which Trent is
showing Rich Patrick what he wants on "suck" and asks him, "You'll have a
killer guitar solo for me tomorrow, won't you?"
To which Rich answers, "Sure, Trent."
I love a man who takes control. <sigh> <grin> JUST KIDDING! (well, I...oh,
nevermind.)
(The article is called "Portrait of a Nine Inch Nail" and was written by Stacy
Stanner. Fuckifiknow which ish it was, but it was defintely early '90, cause
Trent still had the long dreds, which he shaved off in August of '90 on the
RevCo too .)
Hope I cleared this up.

Apparently Wax Trax just released a boxed set called Black Box...this set
includes a version of Supernaut w/ Trent singing...the version on the
Supernaut CD (w/ Hey Asshole, Apathy & Better Days) is Al singing under the
pseudonym(sp?) of Buck Satan...the name Buck Satan came from Buck Owens, a fav
country singer of Al's...Al was trying to start a country band called "Buck
Satan and the 666 Shooters" ...he supposedly approached big name counrty stars
to collaberate with on the project but no one was interested...that's all I
know folks...
