I just borrowed a Lords of Acid cd single (_the Crabhouse_) from my
girlfriend & I really like the song. But I have learned not to buy cds
of unknown bands on the basis of 1 song. So, I figured I'd ask if anyone
out there could compare them to other bands. I mean, I'm into SMG, FLA,
TKK, KMFDM, Front242 etc., so are Lords of Acid similar to any of these
bands?

Well, i used to like them alot. They are pretty techno-ish. The cd that
crablouse comes from, voodoo u, is *ok*. but i like lust much more. LOA
opened for TKK (Sextacy Ball???) so they do go together. You'll probably
like the rest of voodoo u if you liked that single. But IMHO, lust is much
better. Sleazy techno is about the best way I can describe them, but
heavier techno stuff.

Lords of Acid are very sex oriented, hard, Begian-style techno.
They're a fun band, not very serious.
TKK is the closest thing to compare them to.

Not as electronic as FLA.
Not as anthem oriented as Front 242, although they do a "homage" to them in
one song.
Not as monotonous as KMFDM.

I was really into them in 1992, when I got into techno music (Which was a lot
different back then).

That was when the album LUST was out. The song you heard was from the newer
album Voodoo U. I didn't really care too much for that album except for he
Crablouse. If you saw Basic Instinct and can remember the music at the
nightclub, that was a Channel X song, who became Lords of Acid, they're pretty
similar.

Check out Lust, I really liked it for a long time and I still enjoy listening
to it. Just don't let the first song on it scare you away.

LOA is mostly pure techno to me. I wouldn't really consider it
'Industrial', but I still like it. I suggest getting the Voduoo U cd
to start off with. I saw them when they came down to Atlanta doing
the Sextasy Ball tour. Prick and thrill kill kult were with them.
TKK really fucking sucked, and Prick was good, along with LOA.

You might find out more info on the Alt.Techno newsgroup or
something..

Apparently one of those rare shows where the opening act plays AFTER the
headliner.

A lot of responders on this thread have referred to Lords of Acid as
"techno." Sigh. I'd say rave rather than techno (to some, there is a
difference). As far as I'm concerned, Lords of Acid is complete piss.
If you're a 14-year-old male who can't get laid, you'll probably think
they're great. Your tastes seem to be centered around EBM, so I'd guess
you wouldn't be very interested in Lords of Acid unless you like novelty
records.

--Lords of Acid have gotten better from "Lust" to "Voodoo-U." Ruth
McArdle, their lead singer, is one of the most powerful female vocalists
in the world of techno/industrial. I think that Lords of Acid got their
rap for being industrial with "Young Boys"(A theme of the film "Virtuosity")
and few other songs from the album. "Young Boys" has a running distorted
guitar, very rhythmic and fast. It could be labeled as being industrial.
Some of my favorite songs on the album: "Do What You Wanna Do" (Available
as a single, with a cover of the song "Sex Bomb" from the band Flipper),
which is an excellently structured song, very good vocally..."Young Boys"
is a great song, but you don't want to play it with your parents or
girlfriend around..."Special Moments" has a really good beat...and "Drink
My Honey", which was the first song they play during the New Year's Eve
rave scene in "Strange Days" is another excellent song. Unlike a
follow-up poster, I think that "Voodoo-U" is a million times better than
"Lust." "Lust" has decent songs like "Take Control," "Rough Sex," and "I
Must Increase my Bust," but it is a bit to repetitive for me (The tracks
in between, like "Let's Get High" and whatever...

I just borrowed Voodoo-U (the album that Crabhouse is from) this
weekend, and I think it kicks ass. If you like Crabhouse, you will
almost definitely like Voodoo-U. If I was forced to compare them, I'd
compare them to TKK, but I don't like TKK much, and I LOVE lords of
acid, so that isn't a very good comparison.

why dont you guys quit comparing and use your brains/vocabulary for a
change. except for one clued in person (and yes, channel x's - rave
the rhythm - rocks), you guys all basically said the said the same
thing. lords of acid may teeter on the edge of belgian/fuck techno,
but only if you must compare it to something. too guitar driven for
rave/techno, more of an electro-industrial-funk-groove. after all, luc
van acker did play guitars on voodoo u on which the song crabLouse is
contained. it may have been produced by praga khan and jade 4 u, but
that does not automatically qualify it for the techno ranks. for those
who are misinformed, lords of acid played twice last year. i oughtta
know, i was there for both. the first time, dink opened up for them
(fucking rocked) on the "coming to america" tour. the second time,
they CO-HEADLINED (key word) with my life with the thrill kill kult on
the "sextacy ball" tour. as far as loa's albums go, lust and voodoo u
are different in the one aspect of that they have a different singer
for both. ruth mcardle (correct me if i am wrong) sang lust, and my
mind fails me for voodoo u. lust is more techno/sex oriented because
of the time-period it came out in. voodoo u is harder driven, and sex
AND drugs oriented. both VERY good.

Yeah, I think you've got this backwards... Ruth McArdle is on Voodoo-U.
I think the earlier woman's name was Natalie something or other.

"Voodoo-U" era Lords of Acid (the single is "The Crablouse*, btw, not house)
are not what I would consider industrial in the same vein as FLA et. al., but
they are (IMHO) pretty damn good funny-as-hell straight-up techno with
the occasional burst of guitar (correct me if I'm wrong: the guitar is played
by one of the Front-242'ers?). If you liked the Crablouse despite all the
blunt sexual imagery and references to venereal disesases, well, you'll like
the rest of Voodoo U, with similar references. If yer not overly politically
correct and sensitive (read: a fukn tool) then you'll probably like the rest of
the album.

So go get it. :)

CrabLOUSE!!!

What the hell is a CrabHOUSE? Have you even listened to the words? Do you have
any clue as to what you are listening to?

Why don't you kids play it for your mommys and have them explain it to you...

You are wrong but at least you know what a CrabLouse is :)
As far as I know...no one in 242 plays guitar. HOWEVER Richard23 was in the
orginal Revolting Cocks along with Luc Van Aker who does indeed play some
guitar on Voodoo-U.

BTW...The Lords Of Acid you see playing live is a bunch of hired hands, except
for the singer (and she is a different singer than the one on "Lust".)
However, the band got pretty tight on tour...putting together covers (Sex
Bomb) and supposedly writing new songs. I wouldn't be suprised if Prahga and
Jade turn the project over to them on the next album and just handle the
production. (Just a speculation)

Nope...Ruth (aka Lady Galore) is on VoodooU. I know a guy who interviewed them
and he gave me the original singers name...but it escapes me as well.
Apparently she was quite a drinker and was fired.

I saw both of those tours also. The first one was much better IMO except for
"Sex Pot" on the second tour...that was wonderful. Too bad it was so badly
recorded/mixed on the single.

I would venture to say that "Lust" IS a techno/rave album, but one of those
rare ones that you can actually listen to outside of a club (only other
listenable techno...Moby,Prodigy,& Utah Saints.) Voodoo-U is a push in a
completely new direction...there's nothing that sounds remotely like it,
though I guarentee 10 bands will copy it in the next year.

Not sure who you are calling "Misinformed" but I suspect it's me. When I made
the comment about headliners and openers, I was just making fun of the guy who
said LOA "opened" for TKK, since TKK actually played first on the bill. I am
well aware that they co-headlined. And I stand by the fact that LOA live are
hired guns:no musician which appeared on the album actually toured (in the US
at least) except for Ruth. That doesn't mean I don't think they put on a damn
fine show. I would rather see a group of talented hired musicians then Prahga
and Jade standing behind a mixing board ( A-LA The Orb).

And if you weren't talking to me...well it's just my paranoia kicking in
again.
