it occured to me i left out a couple of projects. namely, god, which
is kevin martin's band and which justin broadrick was a member of.
also, justin and kevin worked together under the names techno-animal
and ice. oh, and don't forget justin's split album with andy hawkins
(of blind idiot god) in subrosa's subsonic series, a series which
also included a nik bullen / bill laswell split album.

The drummer from Napalm Death left after about the 3rd or
4th album toform Scorn. The 2nd vocalist (I think) Lee
Dorrian left to form Cathedral, and the the new vocalist
Barney Greenaway has remained.
I don't know about Lull or Null, but ND, Godflesh, and Scorn are all related.
Justin Broadrick of Godflesh was the original ND guitarist--he appears on the
first half of the first ND release Scum. Nick Bullen (formerly of Scorn) was
either the first or second ND vocalist--I forget which. He also appeared on
one half of ND's Scum. Mick Harris of Scorn was NDs second drummer--he was
with the band for a real long time, from when they recorded Scum up until
Utopia Banished. Mick Harris also did some backing vocals in ND--he did a lot
of the high parts. I still remeber watching the ND video back in the early 90s
with still as death metal man, now I guys he even spins in clubs. Justin
Broadrick of Godflesh also laid down the guitars one the first Scorn album. In
fact, if I recall correctly they do a cover of Scum on that album.

>I've heard that Scorn, Lull, Null, Godflesh and Napalm Death are related

M.J. Harris is in Scorn, and Lull, and used to be in Napalm Death.
I don't think that he and KK Null ever did stuff together
but they do have a couple split seven inches.
J. Broadrick is one of the guys in godflesh and he
also appeared on one of the first Scorn albums. He
is also in the band called Techno Animal.
They're new album is called "Re-Entry"
and it happens to sound a little bit like Scorn.
It's very good.
In addition, James Plotkin appeared on the Scorn album
'Evanescence' and James Plotkin also did
a collaboration cd with KK Null called "Aurora"
(which is very awesome!!!)
I'm sure this could go on forever and the list
can eventually include everyone but I don't have
the time right now.
It's really interesting how all these people
work together in one way or another or
are related in one way or another.
Maybe someone can expand on this...

Beast of Eden
here's a brief and mostly accurate history:
napalm death was originally mick harris, justin broadrick, and nik bullen.
before even finishing their first album, justion and nik left. justin
joined the band head of david, and later left them to form godflesh with
paul neville and benny green. meanwhile, napalm death continued with mick
and new bassist shane embury responsible for most of the writing. mick
left after their third album to form scorn with former bandmate nik bullen.
since then, guitarrist mitch harris and shane have been the center of
napalm death. meanwhile mick also recorded some solo stuff under the name
lull. godflesh changed lineup a couple of times also - paul neville left
after the second album to form cable regime. later, robert hampson of loop
joined the band. he left to form main. justin broadrick has also recorded
some solo material as final. mick harris, in addition to all these other
projects, is also drummer for john zorn's band painkiller, and has recorded
collaborations with bill laswell and with martyn bates recently. he also
contributed to the second album by laswell's band praxis. justin broadrick
also contributed to one of painkiller's albums and is supposedly going to
be on the upcoming praxis album.
i'm sure someone will correct me if i've gotten anything wrong.
or fill in some of details i left out if they are inclined to do so.

Lull is Mick Harris. of scorn. Null is Kazuyuki K. Null of Zeni Geva

splits with Lull).

correction: Broadrick appears as *a* guitarist
on the POSESSED and THE ANATOMY OF ADDICTION
albums. and of course, Broadrick remixed one
track on the new remixes EP.
the core lineup of GOD is just Kevin Martin,
Tim Hodgkinson, Dave Cochrane and Lou Ciccotelli
if you check out the credits from album to
album.

Yes. Beautiful, wonderful nature. Hear it sing to us: *snap* Yes. natURE.
Null is Kazayumi K. Null. when he's
not doing solo works, he is the guitarist
for Zeni Geva. the connection here is
really that Null has done a few split
7" releases with Lull put out by Alleysweeper
Recordds and also has done a collaborative
album with James Plotkin, put out by Sentrax.
Lull of courise is Mick Harris ex of
Napalm Death and currently the only member
of Scorn.

well, godflesh is j.k. broadrick, who used to be in napalm death, and
g.c. green (he was too, i think).
scorn is m.j. harris, who was originally the drummer for napalm death,
but is now scorn. nick bullen, also of napalm death, served time in
scorn until the release of "ellipsis," and j.k. broadrick guest
appeared on "vae solis" when they were more godflesh-like.
lull is m.j. harris gone droney, with no real form, just free-floating
effects and feedback. very tripped out, very cool.
null is not related to any of these, but is the project of k.k. null,
a japanese noise merchant. very intense and cool.
cable regime is a spinoff of godflesh... main is the project of rob
hampson, who was in godflesh as a part timer until after the release
of "pure" in 92... techno-animal is j.k. broadrick and kevin
martin.... god is the project of kevin martin which guests
j.k. broadrick a great deal. ice is also related to god.

Mick Harris and Nick Bullen left Napalm (I don't know when) and formed
Scorn. Justin Broadrick plays guitar on the first Scorn album, Vae
Solis.
Well.. Bullen left a long time ago but Mick was with ND longer. I think the
last thing by ND that has him on drums is the Mass Appeal Madness EP.

I think Mick left Napalm Death after the Japanese tour in 1990/91.
Mick Harris was in town last week with Scorn, which has shrivelled down
to himself alone, now that Nik Bullen is in jail. By all accounts,
there's no love lost between Mick and Nik, as I had the chance to
chat with Mick for a while after the gig. Personally, Scorn *with* a
live bass sounded better to me, but Mick wasn't pleased that I said
that. ;-)
Either way, he's going to continue with Scorn on his own now. There
are plans for all kinds of other projects, so be sure that Mick's
name will turn up soon again...
I also had the chance to chat with Kazayuki Null recently, who was
touring Europe with Zeni Geva. A really nice guy, but quite peculiar
in a weird sense. Either way, he took great offense to my describing
some of the Null material as "noisy" in any way. He hates the Japanese
noise. Go figure. He's also busy with a new project with Jim O'Rourke,
if I remember right...

i doubt that, but it would be nice.
"New Kind of Water" was a fine release.
however, there is a new Null disc of
duets which just came out on
Nux Org/Charnel Music. features a
piece with O'Rourke, and that's
likely what you are referring to.
or he's referring to the yona-kit album on skin graft records.
yona-kit is brise-glace (o'rourke and darin gray) with k.k. null.

Although this should probably(definately be in the Death Metal newsgroup)
I would have to say that each and everyone of the bands you mentioned
pales in comparison to Suffocation. Try disincarnate, pyrexia, death,
seance, monstrosity, or oppressor if you want talent and musicianship.

I never find anyone who listens to the same music I do. Miraculiously,
not many people around me have heard of the whole Zorn/Laswell camp. Just
the few friends who turned me on to it all a few years ago.
Has anyone listened to any of Zorn's new american releases, like the
Book of Heads?
Also, has anyone heard of Zorn or Laswell coming to Chicago? I know
Masada is playing at the knitting factory some this month.
Any of you metel heads listen to Neurosis? I saw them in St.Louis a
year or so ago, and I was in a trance the whole show.
I heard Ice wasn't going to release any more records...
BTW, the new AP has a pretty good one-page on Techno Animal (Martin
and Broderick)
Another great album is Burn or Bury, by Milk Cult.

Milk cult has two of the guys from Steel Pole Bathtub, but I don't
know which two. Probably the drummer is one of them.
Has anyone heard any of their other albums? I've just got Burn or Bury,
and if their other stuff is as good, I really want it.
Death and Disincarnate are incredibly good. Too bad Disincarnate only
made one album... <sigh>
