I've recently discovered a great industrial band named Stabbing Westward.
My friend told me about them, and now I can't get enough. Does anyone
know anything about them? Are they planning on going on tour? Do they
have any videos comming out? I have their "Ungod" CD, and was also
wondering what the title of the fourth track (ACF) stands for. Thanks in
advance for your input!

First of all... I wouln't call SW for industrial..maybe pop-industrial-rock
but never mind..they are good :-)

No...I don't think they are going to tour soon since they are working on a new
album (closer to Recoil in style)

I've seen a SW-video of "Lies" but I haven't heard of any other video

Why do you consider them "pop"? Because they sound EXACTLY like Nine
Inch Nails or because they are on Columbia Records or both, cause "sound"
wise I'd say they're pretty heavy, I'd consider them industrial. Would
you consider NIN "industrial" or "pop"?

Haven't seen "Lies" video but I did see a video for "Nothing". Pretty cool.

tisk, tisk, shameless self promotion will get you nowhere once people find
out that you are in SW.

Stabbing westward is another Chicago band. They have one album, with two
singles I believe. They played a few shows in this area (chicago)

The two I saw were increadable!

They opened for front 242 a few years ago. They were still fresh and
there album hadent been relesed yet. The singers voice was still in
studio quality and the band was hyped to be playing.

Then they opened for Depeshe Mode. I did not see this show.

The next time they were around they opened for Killing joke. This show
lacked the energy, probaly because of the constant touring. The singer
seemed a bit horse, but not nearly as bad as Killing joke. They have
been around so long its killed his throat. They also had alot of tech
problems with the bands stuff.

All I know is that last month I was watching TV and this SONY commercial
comes on...it had all these helicopters flying around with speakers
blasting "Violent Mood Swings"...then a convertible-driving Tony Bennett
gets annoyed, hits a remote and changes the song...jerk...I knew his
whole "Mtv-friendly" thing was a facade.

Who's in SW? I didn't see any postings by any of the members of SW.

----
ACF = Chord changes in the chorus... actually, they are A-C-F#. There are
no deep hidden meanings to the name of the song, as one might think.

----
For all's information, SW have one album, Ungod. They have 3 singles --
Violent Mood Swings, Nothing, Lies -- in that order. All of these are not
available as singles, per se, but rather promos... unless you get the imports
from the UK (which aren't imports to people in the UK, but that's beside the
point).

Exactly like Nine Inch Nails, sure bud-- have you listened to the album,
or did you just hear this somewhere? I wold not say NIN is the first
thing to come to mind, give their major album a(nother) listen- it is
quite good.
Yes- NIN is pop (unfortunatly). I see 12 yearold girls weak in the nees
over Trents"touching words".

don't get me wrong I still like nails...

Just to inform people Stabbing Westward sound nothing like NiN. Just
because a band has a song called nothing doesnt mean they sound like
NiN... well, ok, not ALL bands with a "nothing" song. Anyway, they
came to the place where I work last summer with DM and although I didnt
hear em my friend said they were cool cause he could here em from where
he was working and he said they were cool so i got the CD and its been
gathering dust along with a bunch of run on sentences in my room.

Sorry, I still think they sound like NIN. The first time I heard SW was
I saw a the video for "Nothing" on a video compilation tape that I got.
Right away I thought they (or at least that song) sounded like NIN. Not
that that's bad. I like NIN and I like SW. You gotta love the song
"Violent Mood Swings". That song is quite soothing after a hard day of work.

I can't argue with this point. It's too bad that KIDS have discovered
cool music. They're ruining it for the rest of us. I guess it's good to
see them broadening their horizons (cheap cliche). Problem is they just
don't understand . . .

The first time I heard them, they (along with Course of Empire,
another really good band) were opening up for Prong. Throughout the
whole set, I thought they sounded like a decent NIN-knockoff. But
their set really stuck in my head, and a few days later I went and
picked up the disc. Listening to it, I can still see the parallels
with NIN, but I think I was wrong to judge them as an NIN sound-alike.
Whether anyone thinks they sound like NIN or not, Stabbing Westward is
a very talented band, and well worth listening to.

When I first heard "Nothing" I thought it was just a NIN rip-off. Then
they started touring with DM so I decided to give them a chance, and what do
you know, none of their other songs sound anything like NIN. They are pop
industrial but in their own way.

Here's one person who hates NIN but loves Stabbing Westward.

To my ears Stabbing Westward sound more like screaming trees.... Vox style
as well as song structure / melodies.........
