Ok, I'll skip the intro I was going to think up [namely
because I don't feel like thinking], and skip right to the
point:

- If you were to make your own Industrial Comp, who would
you put on it, and which songs by them?

I'll have to think about mine, and I'll get back to you all.

Danie| Payne <pay...@hotmail.com> posed the question:

<<If you were to make your own Industrial Comp, who would
you put on it, and which songs by them? >>

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. A damn fine question, and one that I've been wrestling with for
well over a year now. My answer:

I'd make it a 2 Disc set of an eclectic mixture of the best in underground
industrial and electronic acts, because man cannot live by 'industrial' alone.
I'd make it as dancefloor friendly as possible, cuz God knows I like the
up-tempo stuff. I'd put the following artists and songs on it:

16Volt - I'd really like a live, exclusive track, but I would certainly settle
for a remix of an existing track, because 16Volt has yet to cut a track that
I'm not fairly nuts about.

Scar Tissue - I'd take anything I could get from these guys, simply because
Steve and Phil are two of the most brilliant guys working in electronic music
period, imho. Most likely, a live sounding mix of Choking On Fate from
'Separator'.

Assemblage 23 - Since Tom Shear is one of the most talented, and sadly
underrated, electro acts in the US, I'd procure an exclusive track from him.
He'd call it Coward, and it would end up being one of the most popular tracks
on the compilation.

Area 88 - Jon, like me, is obsessed with sex, so I'd ask him for a really sexy
track that would fill a dancefloor. It would be called Shameless, and it
would be slammin'.

NIHIL - Since I manage this wonderfully heavy electro-industrial act, I'd ask
for their best song. I would get Different State. It would be one of the
most powerful tracks on my compilation.

The Aggression - Again, since ya know I loves the Coldwave, I'd ask FJ and
company for Disposable Memories, from their debut CD on Tinman Records,
'Whitelineoverride', and if not that, I'd ask for a cut from their upcoming
remix EP 'Pure Liquid Ego'.

Ipecac Loop - I'd gladly take anything that Cameron Lewis offered to me.

Necrofix - I'd ask Bildeaux and Rich for an exclusive song, one that rivals the
popular Passion's Folly in dancey-ness and programming brilliance.

Digit - And, since I know that Bildeaux and Rich have a Coldwave-tinged
side-project known as DIGIT, I'd ask them for a cut, and I'd get L.H.L.T.,
which stands for Love/Hate/Lies/Trust. This track starts out quiet, and ends
in complete cachophony. You gotta hear it to understand.

Terminal 46 - I'd beg them for anything from their brilliant CD 'Paradise Lost
Me', and I'd get the title track, or the wonderful Stagger Back Home. Simply
one of the best CDs of 1997, whether you're an electro purist or a Coldwave
lover.

Pain Station - I'd hope that Decibel Records would allow me to use anything
from Pain Station. If I had MY choice, I'd use Closer To The Edge from his
terrific 1996 debut Anxiety. But if I could get an exclusive remix of any
track, I'd take it.

RESIN8 - To avoid any legal problems, I'd ask the boys of LVX NOVA, signed to
Miramar Records, to contribute something from their side-project RESIN8. I'd
be confident that whatever they gave me would rock.

Haloblack - I'd ask Bryan for a remix of the song Bounded from his 2nd CD,
FunkyHell. If not that, I'd get an exclusive remix of a track from his 1st
CD, most likely Out Of Balance.

Vault Point Nine - Anything from these very very talented Savannah, GA
electro-punks would do, but if I had my choice, it would be their original
song Wire Junkies. It too, would fill dancefloors.

Battery - Since Transit is my favorite song from 'Distance' on COP
International, I'd ask them to remix it for me. And they have.

Heliophobe - Since I respect Bryan Black's work with Haloblack, I'd like to
include a track from his Electronica side-project. It would be called R12,
and it would be a damn fine example of minimalist techno.

Luxt - I'd ask Luxt for an exclusive remix of Innocence Lost , from their
self-released debut CD 'Jezabel Thirteen-Three'.

Xovan - Since their song Amokel is one of the most beautiful tracks I've heard
in a long time, I'd ask them for that. And even though I hate Gothic with a
passion, it's goth overtones would not bother me in the least.

Fear Feeds Fear - I'm so impressed with Brandt Gassman and John Nagrodski's
work that I'd suggest they work with my lyrics and vocals, and that we create
the ethereal song Raped.

Dirty - Since his dismissal from Sister Soleil, I'd ask Derek Fredrickson for
something from his new project called Dirty. He'd more than likely respond
with a very catchy number called Little Monster, that brings comparisons to
the Sneaker Pimps, but of course that's just the easy comparison.

Circuitry - Well, by now ya know that I love the Electronica too, so I'd ask
talented new-comer Lou McMullen for an exclusive track called Sleep Sustain.
It would bring to mind FSOL, but that's just another easy comparison.

SMP - I'd ask SMP for anything that they felt like contributing, so long as it
was under 5 minutes (well, ya know, there's only so much you can put on 2
Discs...), and Jason and Co would respond with Fun and Games.

SpineFolder - Upon being so impressed with my copy of their debut, I'd ask Tim
Ebling for Arctalicus. I'm not even going to try to describe or compare them.
You'll just have to hear it for yourself.

Noxious Emotion - I'd ask Mike and Shane for an exclusive track, and they'd
respond with X-Unknown (V2.0), a VERY catchy number whose lyrics would rival
even the Psychopomps. <eg>

Speck - I'd ask good friend Eric for a number called Need. His coldwave
stylings resemble those of NIN, and I'm not ashamed to publicly admit that I
really like NIN. Of course there's more to Speck, but room is limited.

Fishtank No. 9 - I dunno, I'm so dumbfounded by War-N Harrison's debut CD
'Itself' on COP International that I'd take anything he agreed to. (Between
you and me, he agreed to Liquid, and it rocks.)

Triana - I'd love to have the electronica-esque track Rotating Acid Peaks from
this strangely undiscovered NY based act.

Audio Paradox - I'd still be undecided as to exactly which track of Josh Pyle's
that I'd use, but it would more than likely be Grace One, which appeared on
Arts Industria's 'Construction Number Nine' compilation.

Project 33 - More than likely, I'd use a track called Overcast from this
Chicago group.

Lateral Tension - I'm very impressed with this Washington state act, so I'd ask
them for the title track from their upcoming debut 'Pressue Device'.

Form/Alkaline - Well, we've already established how impressed I am with Scar
Tissue, so I'd take a track called Explant from their side-project. It would
be harsh ambient at its best.

Thine Eyes - Anything these guys wanted to contribute would be fine. Heroin
Chic would be my personal pick, from their self-released CD 'From The Taunt'.
Hard to describe.

Dystopia One - Their sense of humor may be lost on most in the ultra-serious
genre of industrial and electronic, but I for one can appreciate it. Etc. Vs.
Vice Versa would be exactly the kind of exclusive track I'd like from these
Long Island jokesters.

.burned - Simply wowed by .burned's aggressive techno-pop delivery, I'd be
happy with anything. They're unsigned and for the most part, totally unknown.
I'd ask for Regret, and it would be the track most likely to break
mainstream. Regardless, it would pack dancefloors.

Like I said...mine took about over a year to perfect. It's called Cyberbabies
- An Industrial / Electronic Compilation, and it'll hopefully be coming to a
store near you in early 1998. Reviews are coming online as we speak...and
they can be accessed from the PRESS section of the Cyberbabies home page, the
URL for which is below. This shameless hype has been brought to you by:

My Industrial Compilation would be a compilation of every EHC song that has
EVER been on ANY other compilation cd.
