< I've only got 2 CDs by Pigface; Gub and Notes From Thee Underground.
< I got Gub first, a while back, and I can't say I was all that impressed

< what's a good CD of theirs to get that I don't already have?
Ahh, welcome to the club, friend. Yes, Pigface is the greatest band that
ever was. And you've already got their best release in Notes From Thee
Underground. However, if you liked that, you'll like the remix album
Feels Like Heaven... Sounds Like Shit! just as much. Plus the remix album
is about twice as long. The other really outstanding Pigface album is
Fook, which includes the classic Hips, Tits, Lips, Power! along with nine
other great songs.
They've also got two live albums: Welcome to Mexico...Asshole and Truth
Will Out. Although some here will disagree with me, I think WTMA is
complete shit. It just sounds like a fucking rock band and lacks the
diversity of sounds in every other Pigface album. On the other hand, TWO
is great. It's a recording of the first show that Genesis P-Orridge ever
did with Pigface. He brought along a bunch of tapes and was doing
impromptu sampling during the performance. It's also got a pretty funny
Bill Clinton impersonation and closes with a kick-ass performance of Suck.
Their only other album is Washingmachine Mouth, which is a remix album of
Fook. Most of the stuff on it isn't that good, but it's got a very fun &
interesting extended dance remix of Hips, Tits, Lips, Power! which is 10
minutes long. And it is sold for about the price of a single or EP, so
it's close to worth the money if you really love Pigface. Definitely get
Fook and Feels Like Heaven... first, though.
Besides a few singles which are only available on vinyl and are mostly
limited edition, the only other Pigface release is Spoon Breakfast. It
was released on cassette and vinyl, but it's just the remixes which are on
Gub. Unless you're a collector, avoid it.

BTW, you're right: the sound quality of Gub is *awful*. Gotta love that
version of Suck, though. And I think that Tailor Made is the best Pigface
song that nobody has ever heard of.

Obviously you bought some other record with the name "Gub" pasted onto it. The
quality of Gub's songs are debatable (some love it, others hate it...I am one
of the former), but the quality of its recording is simply not. You are not
allowed to question the talent of Steve Albini. Albini is the analog god and
any objections simply stem from years of subjection to overproduced records.
Albini's philosophy is simple: what you hear is what you get. He captures the
live sound of a band like no one else. No overdubs, no "digital editing", no
session men. Just 24 tracks of beautiful analog straight to half inch tape.
I will agree that the mastering of Gub to CD leaves a bit to be desired.
Listen to Gub again on vinyl and you may see what I am talking about. On the
other hand, you may not. The post is flowing with ooze over Notes and I would
gather from this that you are quite the fan of studio trickery. Nothing wrong
with studio trickery per se (what would electro bands do?), but purism must be
recognized and elevated where it exists.
-Eli
P.S. cf Albini's old band Big Black, whose records are perhaps the finest
things ever pressed onto black vinyl.
Seriously, though, you might want to check out "Feels Like Heaven...", the
remix companion to "Notes From Thee Underground". "truth Will Out", their
second live disc, is pretty good, too.
Later...

: Ahh, welcome to the club, friend. Yes, Pigface is the greatest band that

Agreed.
And you've already got their best release in Notes From Thee
: Underground.
No way! Fook definitely blows NFTU away! Not only is Insemination my
favorite Pigface song, but it's my favorite song EVER. It's not often
that I like every track on a cd, but Fook is one of these (w/ the possible
exception of Autohag). I would say that this should be the first Pigface
experience for any listener, or at least the next one for the original
poster.
However, if you liked that, you'll like the remix album
: Feels Like Heaven... Sounds Like Shit! just as much. Plus the remix album

I personally don't think this is really that great compared to their other
releases. Hagseed is an amazing song, and there are a couple of others,
but over all, I find this one kind of boring. There's also too many
versions of that Rankine song.
The other really outstanding Pigface album is
: Fook, which includes the classic Hips, Tits, Lips, Power! along with nine

YES! Get it next!

Yes, I will disagree with you, Thin White Duke. I know you think this is
blasphemy, but WTMA has the best version of Suck on it. There's also an
unforgettable version of Blood and Sand. It's a tough call for me b/w
this one and Truth Will Out.

Yes, and that "very early" Skinny Puppy song, Jingle Bells.

Yes, I get better sound when I record to four track.
Gotta love that

I'm in full agreement here. With the exception of Weightless, it's my
favorite song on Gub. It's been mentioned before that Paul Barker
shouldn't be allowed to sing, but I actually like his voice.
Mike
washingmachine mouth is good. truth will out is also damn good. they're
all good, except for welcome to mexico asshole
Washingmachine Mouth is worth it simply because of Cutting Face. The rest
of the album is gravy on the mashed potatoes.
Oh, I'll take NFTU over Fook because of the song diversity, but I f'n love
GO!

Fook is their first studio album and has songs strongly influenced by En
Esch and Ogre, but is closest to Notes which is by far the best pigface
(my opinion only of course).

You're wrong on two counts:
1) Gub was their first studio album.
2) That NFTU is their best is NOT just your opinion. It's an indisputable fact.
