How many versions of this song exist, in movies and non-film albums.

Are there more stanzas in the following lyrics?

Thanks.

Mera Rang De Basanti Chola is a traditional Punjabi patriotic song
penned by Ramprashad Bismil. The line means "to dye my clothes in
saffron color" (the color of sacrifice and courage).  The song
was a
favourite of Bhagat Singh and has been historically associated with
him. He reportedly sang the song on his way to the gallows. This song
is sung on Martyrs' Day(March 31) every year. The song was popularised
further when it was used by Manoj Kumar in his 1965 film 'Shaheed'
directed by S.R.Ram Sharma which was also based on Bhagat Singh's life.
The sung was sung by Mukesh, Mahendra Kapoor and Rajendra Mehta. The
lyrics were adapted from Ramprashad Bismil's original work by
composer/lyricist Prem Dhawan.

Among the four new versions of Bhagat Singh(1931-Shaheed, The Legend of
Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Shaheed-e-Azam) two are airing
this song in the promos. In Rajkumar Santoshi's The Legend of Bhagat
Singh, the song is sung by Sonu Nigam and Manmohan Waris and written by
Sameer and set to tune by A.R.Rahman. In Shaheed Bhagat Singh the song
is rendered by Mohammed Salamat and composed by Jaidev Kumar. One can
take it for granted the song would find a place in the other versions
of the film too given the song's strong association with the character.

The traditional lyrics of the song are--

Mera ranga de basanti chola
mera ranga de
oh mera ranga de basanti choolaa
maahee rangade basanti chola

jis chole ko pehan sivaji, khele apne jaan pe
jise pehan jhansiki rani, mitgaye apane aan pe
aaj useeko pehanke niklaa...
aaj useeko pehanke niklaa, hum maston ka tola ||mera||

dam nikale ish desh ke khatir, bus itna armaan hai
ek baar ish raah pe marna, sou janmom ka samaan hai
dekh ke veeron ki qurbani...
dekh ke veeron ki qurbani, apna dil bhi bola || mera ||

Bada hi gehara daag hai yaaron, jis ka desh gulaam hai
oh jeena bhi kya jeena hai, apna desh gulaam hai
seene me jo dil tha yaaron...
seene me jo dil tha yaaron, aaj banaa de sholaa || mera ||

IIRC, the Martyr's day used to be January 30, the same as Gandhiji's death
anniversary. Has it been changed?

Happy listenings.

I think Martyr's Day, as you point out, is commemorated on Jan. 30.

AFAIR, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged on March 23rd,
NOT the 31st. That date, I think, is called "Bhagat Singh *Martyrdom*
Day" or, as our school diary called it, "shaheed Bhagat Singh Day/divas".

So ... where did the '31' *creep in* from? :))
Perhaps the year of Bhagat Singh's death -- 1931 (just a guess)

Just to concur what UVR sahib said: Shaeed Bhagat Singh was hanged on March
23rd, 1931. The song happens to be one of my favourite patriotic songs,
perhaps because I idolize the young man who gave his life for his country...
As someone mentionned before, the song is perhaps in all four coming movies,
i can't wait to hear different versions of this song. Shaheed Bhagat Singh
is a symbol of bravery and he will always be a legend....
As an aside, ARR has done great job with few other patriotic numbers in the
past: "Bharat hamko jaan se pyaara hai", "Maa.n tujhe salaam",
"Vande-Maatram", "ye jaatii paatii chho.Ro"... and if he gives music to this
song, i can't wait to hear the sound-track.

Insert 'from' here. "Perhaps from the year ..." &c.
