After not finding my answering online, I come to the last resort --
you guys. :)

I am craving to know the meaning of the the refrain of the song 'Bol
re Papihara' ..

Bole re papiiharaa papiiharaa
Kit ghan barse , nit man pyaasaa
Nit man pyaasaa, nit man tarase
Bole re...

In particular, the meanings of 'Papihara' (perhaps, a bird that yearns
for her lover), 'Kit' (perhaps, "so much") and 'Nit' (perhaps,
"still"). Note that 'Kit ghan barse' may be 'Nit ghan barse' too ..

Rest of the lyrics are easier to understand. :)

Full (slighly incorrect) lyrics are at:

http://www.musicindiaonline.com/lr/17/3213/

Thanks!
Anshu

"papiiharaa" is a variant of "papiihaa" - a kind of cuckoo that is
supposed to feed only on raindrops.

"kit ghan barase" is right - 'kit' is a variant of
'kidhar'/'kahaa.N' (where).
'nit' is a variant of 'nitya' (incessant, eternal).

Dear All,
as far as I remember, PAPIHARA was the STONE out of the mango. We used to eat mango first, then use the mango stones and bury them in ground. Due to ample rain and less polluted soil in my days during 60's, the mango plants used to pop up every where like grass. We used to dig these out, replant the tree and use the rest of the stone of mango or the buried seed. It used to be very soft as out layer was dissolved or opened up. Then take this green soft seed of mango, grind it a stone at narrow part and open it up "like the surface of a grinder with blade" gap was kept minimum and this caused one part to vibrate, if air is filled in this seed of mango. We used to play music or simply sing on the other side, while blowing air. The vibration would make this "PAPIHARA" to play song but musical. It was pleasant sound. However, you can compare this sound to certain extent of SHANAI. If you pay attention to this SONG itself, you will hear that sharp sound and this is more or less imitated sound of what actually came out of mango seed... There is not a bird to make this sound of PAPIHARA (Mango Seed).. Only LIAR's bird can imitate that sound. Look for videos on LIAR's bird. This bird can imitate many sound by just listening.... amazing Papihara...Ask Baba Ramdev, he will give you the same answer for Papihara... good luck find one and play music.

nit ->daily

Anshu ji:

If you wish to meet 'PAPIHA" alone, then can
listen to the song:

Papiha Re, Papiha Re
Mere Piya Se Kahiyo Jaye

It is from film: KISMET (1943) / Music Anil Biswas

Singers: Parul Ghosh + a male voice (only initial 2 lines0

Excellent rendering by Mrs. Ghosh. I am almost certain
that you will like this song more than the one featured
in this post
