Thanks

I don't know of any hardware solution to achieve this. If you are
willing to put in some effort, you could digitize a track (or rip it
if it is on CD), change the key using some audio processing
software and burn a new CD. There will be some degradation
in audio quality for large key changes.

Assuming you have your Karaoke tracks on CD, mp3, wav or wma format,
there are a few things you can do:
1. Using freeware: Get Winamp. Download the PaceMaker plugin,
or the SlowMeDown plugin (the latter works only on Winamp 2).
These offer the ability to separately slow down the pitch (key)
or the tempo (speed) of the music being played. Note that you
will have to rip your music into wav or mp3 format for this to
work. If you really want to play it directly off the CD, try
using the CD-Reader plugin (I haven't used this) in conjunction
with PaceMaker or SlowMeDown. Visit the WinAmp website.
2. Shareware (try-and-buy):
a. Use the 'Amazing Slow Downer'. I have not used this myself,
but it's from the same guy who wrote the SlowMeDown plugin,
which I *have* used. http://www.ronimusic.com/ This can
evidently play music directly off the CD and apply the pitch
and/or tempo transforms as it does.
b. Get the Chronotron plugin (works with Winamp 3+ or Windows
Media Player 9+). http://www.chronotron.com/
If you have your karaoke music in .kar or MIDI format files, give
vanBasco's karaoke player a dekko. It's free (!) and, as far as
I have seen, works remarkably.

or their producers in any manner.
Wow! Thanks for the wealth of information. What does Chronotron
do?
Any other plug-ins for WinAmp you have found very useful?

Thanks for all the information.

hi,
I tried Pacemaker plug in. It is good. I don't know how the developer
has pulled off trick of changing pitch. Pacemaker manages it
reasonably well. The tempo and speed adjustments are also
satisfactory.
I was looking for this kind of tool which will play music at slower
speed so that complex interlude pieces can be understood correctly.
Some of the AIWA tape players have that facility, I was not able to
get that model.
Thanks a lot for your tip.

There are standard signal processing algortihms to achieve
speed and pitch changes independently.

You mean to say that these tape players change the speed
without changing the pitch? In that case, they must have
significant digital electronics. Analog systems cannot do it.
Can you post the model numbers and any additional
information?
