CHHAYA GEET #17: Tanhaai/Loneliness

This is #17 of a series based on the famous Vividh Bharathi radio program
"Chhaya Geet" in which songs based on a particular theme are played. Chhaya
Geet is usually posted on Wednesdays on RMIM.
This series serves to corroborate the "Naushad fan postulate" which states
that for every REAL life situation, there exists atleast one REAL song which
can be sung in your IMAGINARY world ! :-) This series is also a small tribute
to my favourite Vividh Bharathi announcer and Chhaya Geet hostess Kanta Gupta.
CHHAYA GEET #17
TODAY'S SITUATION/THEME: If you are an average desi student in the US who is
single, I'm sure u suffer from occasional bouts of Tanhaai, ie. loneliness.
Despite being in the constant company of friends, the following lines of
Neeraj in the song "Phoolon ke rang se...." seem so very true:
"Lamba safar ho

Sooni dagar ho ya mela
Yaad tu aae, dil ho jaae
BheeRh ke beech akela....."
Yes, one does feel "BheeRh ke beech akela" at times. Here are some songs on the

Talat is the stud who just stands under a tree and expresses his grief
to himself and only himself. He does not need to share it w/ anyone,
does not believe in protesting to anyone, but is content w/ listening to
himself.

Aapki theme hame bahut pasand aayi. I was thinking about it all evening
yesterday. I came up with a few more songs which might fit in. Besides, I
thought, there are times when you feel the 'tanhai' but you aren't necessarily
sad. Spring is here, how can anybody be outdoors looking at life smiling at
him and still be gham-geen (if that is the right word).
Also, another class of songs would be for the type who are physically
single (i.e. fiance/fiancee/beloved in India type).
Here are some of the songs I came up with :
*** the sad type -
akela hoon main, is duniya me,
saathi hai koi to mera saaya,

o door ke musafir, hamko bhi saath le le

*** the not-so-sad type -

and ultimately one of my absolute favorites -

Whether it is spring or not, dil kabhi kabhi taRapta hai

But, I do understand ur point. There can be tanhaai without GHam.

I liked the above category best. Tanhaai/yaad/judaai/intezaar are so inter-related. Here are songs for people about to get separated
(not the legal separation :-) )
