I guess there was a nice song in Don as well, where Helen is trying to seduce

IMHO, Trishul should not be put in the same category as the
rest of the bunch, as far as 'ever-watchability' is concerned, and
add Muqaddar ka Sikander and Kaalia, ummm. maybe Mr. Natwarlaal.
Btw, just to make it relevent to this newsgroup, the soundtrack for
Muqaddar ka Sikander has got to be one of the BEST of all-time, probably
rank up there with 'Abheeman' 'Araadhna' 'Do Raastay' 'Kati Patang'
Btw, who was the MD for Do Raastay anyway? It wasn't RD, was it?

I think Lata selected her songs carefully. Rarely do you find a song
sung by Lata that has a double meaning in it, or a vampish
pictureization. And being the no.1, she could refuse to sing songs she
did not like. On the contrary, Asha was always in the shadow of Lata and
had to take what she could get. It really tells us a lot about Asha's
talents if she was able to avoid being typecast into singing vamp songs
alone.

Why do you call these songs, lousy ? The seductive songs Asha Bhosale
sung are good and also popular and are not supposed to be held down
just bcos they are picturised on either a 'not-so-a-heroine' cabaret

Well.. I havent seen this song but I think seduction more appropriately
means a situation where one party is not very enthusiastic and the other
person is trying to charm him/her. Well.. in the song Na joa saiyan, it
is exactly the same situation.. and I can't believe the realistic
seductive expressions (sadness mixed with want) Meena Kumari has in this
particular song when Rehmaan is leaving her.
May be the song you mentioned is also as good, but as it seems from the

seduction, is it?

Yes, as far as I remember, that was a great seduction scene. Waheeda must have
been good at conveying the urgency of desire, and here it's more intense than
in "jaane kyaa toone kahi," which was a much more playful seduction of a rather
timid (though interested) man. Intriguing that in the black and white days
there was so little access to the more straghtforward physical advances
permitted to actors today, so women especially had to focus all their talents
on conveying desire through facial expressions and VERY subtle body language.

Hey, the mention of being tied up brought this memory of a song with
a girl singing (maybe trying to seduce Rishi?) on a boat(?) (Although
for some reason my memory tells me it was a 'cabin' of some sort in
the middle of an ocean, probably a boat though.. ) Apparently rishi
has abducted her (to take revenge on her father maybe?) and she is
trying to semi-seduce him so that she can get an opportunity to get
away. Anyone seen this movie? The name might be 'samundar' or
'baarood' Don't ask me how I can confuse these two. *shrug*

Well when you talk about being successful in their bid, are you referring to
whether they succeed in the context of the character in the film or are you
referring to the ability of the actress to carry the scene off ??
There seems to be some identity confusion between the actress and the character
they play, in my interpretation of your statements.
From the above examples you have given, I hope you are referring to the former
since atleast Meena Kumari does a marvellous job of "trying" to seduce Rehman
in "Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam". And Geeta Dutt's voice has a great mixture of
pathos, seduction and drunkenness. Meena Kumari's portrayal of the long
suffering wife who will do anything to keep her husband at home is exceptional.
On a note unrelated to a song of seduction, one of my favorite scenes in the
film though is a happier song "Piya aiso jiya me samaay gayo re". The way the
camera goes past Meena Kumari's rather generous proportions in the film to
extract the beauty and expressions on her face is wonderful. As an actress,
under good directors, she could express emotions without saying very much. And
this was one such example. A similar scene is the one in "Kohra" where
Biswajeet sings "Yeh nayan Dare Dare" to Waheeda and convinces her to dress
up for him. I find that scene very tender and the song perfect for the
seduction (this is a more subtle, gentle seduction by a husband of his scared
wife). And the fact that I have always had a major crush on Waheeda never
hurt either :-) :-)
P
The movie you are talking about is Manoranjan. One of the worst movies
of Sanjeev Kumar. Why he bothered to act in a movie with a third-rate
script is beyond me.
Even the songs are forgettable as far as I can remember because
I don't remember them :) I think there was a "anokhe bol" type
song that goes "goyake chonanche..." or something like that.
Just my opinion !

Barood. The heroine was Shoma Anand. Pramod Chakravarti movie if I
recall right.
-Vishal
p.s. A large portion os "Barood" is shot on the "Samundar". Partial
explanation to your confusion.
I would disagree. The movie was a remake of "Irma la Douce" (with Shirley
Maclaine and Jack Lemmon) and was one of the only two movies I know where
the Hindi version appealed at least as much as the English one. (The other
one is "Meet John Doe," or "main azaad hoon.") The script was hilarious,
with the cop trying to do everything to "save" his love from a life she
enjoys. As KKR above says, Zeenat actually _acted_ in the movie, and was
a wonderful seductress, especially in the song "chori-2 solah shringaar
karoongi." Awesome tune and very well sung by Asha.

That is not quite the "anokhe bol" type. The two words are from Urdu
and quite in context in the movie. Other songs were "aayaa hooN maiN
tujhko le jaaonga" and "dulhan maike chali" (when the prostitutes are
being taken to the "thana" :-) The MD was RDBurman, lyricist Anand Bakshi.

Preetham bhai,
When I posted the above for which you replied I had the following in mind.
Seduction songs can be put in 4 categories
a) when heroine seduces hero
b) when heroine seduces other than hero
c) when vamp seduces hero
d) when vamp seduces villain
Generally, a) is always succesful. I put songs of 'teasing' also in this
category. For ex, the one in anamika. The characters we see here are like
the hero is angry with heroine, or hero is impotent kind or some compelling
reason of hero's inability (anil kapoor in beta. we missed Madhuri's seduction
song boss. I forgot the song. It was in the fields.Madhuri was ultimate in
that) I wanted to know any exception where heroine fails.
In this situation if we take the ability of an actress to play a role of
'seductress', Meena, Waheeda are not perfect fits (My opinion). This is because
to play these roles an actress must have certain 'sex_appeal' (I have another
word ffor this, but might offend the fans).
Madhuri,Manisha,Mamata, Mumtaz (all Ms???), zeenat, hema (to some extent) have
these. To play the teasing roles, the actress must have a quality of
mischievousness. Jaya and Amala are very good in a role of teasing.
Coming back to categories d) are songs like (mehbooba aah mehbooba). There si
no question of success/failure. It was for a particular section of audience.
In b) generally heroine tries to save hero or something like that.
In c) vamp tries to help villain or really she is impressed by hero.
I was trying to see only heroine is scuccesful in hindi films or vamps also
succesful.

in that case, cant we include the catagory "hero trying to pataofy
heroine" too?
like one song that springs to my mind is RK in SANGAM...
"mere man ki ganga..."
of course, including this catagory allows thous of songs that can be
cited here...
and that reminds me... how about this song from SANGAM?
"kyaa karoon raam mujhe budhdha mil gayaa..."
> I wanted to know any exception where heroine fails.
so would I. There has to be a few songs where this situation arises...
like say there are two females for same hero (undoubtedly one has to
fail)
and then does not meenakumari fail in the song "na jaao saiyan"?
but there has to be more...

i wonder how important sex appeal is... meenakumari song "na jaao..."
is the best, perfect, indisputable example of a seduction song and she
does an excellent job (as someone pointed out - too good considering
she
did it by mere facial expressions and only subtle gestures)

Arre nai, I really don't think so, as far as I remember [AFAIR] there's
this lady singing the song the way I've seen them recite 'katha's in
telugu movies, and Waheeda Rehman is probably watching or listening from
the terrace or something and Guru Dutt is somewhere in the background,
lost in thought, something to that effect...nothing heavy...
But yes, the implication that the sentiments are echoed by Waheeda Rehman
is definitely there, AFAIR. She probably looks at Guru Dutt a couple of
times or something...
>
> in "jaane kyaa toone kahi," which was a much more playful seduction of a rather > timid (though interested) man.
No Roopa, it's not her he's interested in, per se, but in the song she's
singing to him, because it's his poetry and he had been trying to get it
published for a long time...he's upset by her blatant violation of
copyright laws..:) she's just too cute in the song tho'..:)
And as for him being timid, I think he just has this "out to lunch" look
about him more than anything else...:)
Another song which cud probably be classified in this category [tho' I
think we need to come up with a milder term for the songs we're discussing,
considering the way soaps define seduction...:)],
"Lag ja gale ke phir ye haseen raat ho na ho..". Terrific song, Sadhana and
Manoj Kumar, beautifully picturised, lovely music by Madan Mohan...it's one
of those picture-perfect songs, imho...lyrics by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, never
noticed him before, a slightly different style of expression, suited to
the movie [Woh Kaun Thi] of course, but different nevertheless...
For instance, "Paas aaiye ke hum nahiN aayenge baar baar,
Baahein gale me daalkar hum ro lein zaar zaar,
Shaayad phir is janam mein ye baat ho na ho.."
Even that other song of his, "Jo humne daastaan apni sunaayi, aap kyun roye..",
the style of expression has a different flavor altogether...I can't think
of another song that conveys the same sentiments in the same fashion...
or maybe they're just fresh in my memory 'coz I saw them recently, I
don't think so tho'...:)

it was released in early 70's and had them in the bedroom-fire scene

" nahin nahin , abhi nahi, abhikaro intezar
to which the response is
" nahin nahin, kabhi nahin, main hoon bekaraar.. "
The song is pretty oomphy ... and the director makes a valiant attempt
at making Jaya look seductive... dark sets.. hair let down etc...
The finale however is expectedly foiled....when the heroine's dad arrives
at the end of the song!

just a thought,

Beta - Dhak dhak karne laga
Mohra - Tip Tip barsa paani
Mr. India - I love you
Namak Halal - Aa jara pat jaaye ( I am not sure about this one )
Arjun - I don't remember this one (Prem Chopra in it)
Saagar - Jaane do na
Betaab - Baadal yun garajta hai
I think I will put all Madhuri's, Juhi's and Mamta's dance numbers in this
category. Just a thought.
You are very right. In this song there are three-four girls on the street singing
this song, one with an iktara kind of thing, and Waheenda Rahman is on the
terrace. This is not exactly a song of seduction.
> "Lag ja gale ke phir ye haseen raat ho na ho..". Terrific song, Sadhana and
I had also thought of this.. a erally wonderful song but I was wondering if it can
really be a song of seduction.. it is more like a song before parting.
> Shaayad phir is janam mein ye baat ho na ho.."
ye baat? I think it is mulaqat.. shayad is janam me fir mulaqat ho na ho.

A nice, cute song indeed. Any idea what movie it's from? All that
I can remember is that the song is picturised on Hema and Sanjay Khan.

Other than the double entendre, sexual innuendo and the overall
exhibition of horniness it is a cute song indeed.

No. But memory says that Ravi is the composer.

It should be "Aaj rapat jaaye", although I don't know for sure what
"rapat" means.

I think it is something like this :
"dhaDkan dil ki badhti jayee
chupke chupke ye sharmaye"

the male seducing female is never seen...
all songs even remotely close are of the type male
trying to pataofy female...
can anyone come up with male seducing female kind
of song?

aaj rapat jaaye to...

juhi dancing?! :)
like the one with devgan in some recent movie (naajayaz?) where the lyrics go like
"...lagata hai tu mawali,
... deti hai kyon.... gaali"
(she looks fab in that song - just what she usually missed - good figure - shows well in that
number; but hardly a seduction song)
or madhuri's ek,do,teen - wud not call it seduction number...
or even mamta's dance in the famous nana patekar-dimple movie - quite recent...
again not a seduction song :))
> I think more than this, a prpoer song of seduction is one where Madhuri
> seduces Anil Kapoor in the farmhouse(?) to start their post-marital sex
> life. That was seduction, this was daydreaming.
this reminds me of another anil kapoor movie with some new actress...
remake of a kamal hasan movie... anil kapoor is again kind of like dumbo...
and this female who is his wife sings this song in a similar situation...
can it be called a seduction song? first did anyone get the movie? :)

Could you be talking about 'Be-taaj Badshah'? If so, his wife was
Juhi. I think it came out in '92, cause I watched it in '93 and it
was 'quite new' at the time.

The heroines name is Vyjayashanti. Itr is a pretty seductive song.
It is remake of tamil movie
Chippikkul Muthu. I don't recall the hindi name!
..Mani
Other songs..
Parveen Babi- Suhaag (Ghar le Chalo)
Rekha- Muqaddar ka Sikandar
Neetu Singh- Great Gambler
Raveena-Ajay Devgun (Don't remember the movie)

Eeshwar, with Anil and Vijayashanti... It was a remake of some
Telugu film with Kamal Haasan and Vijayashanti..

Songs like "Nahi nahi, abhi nahi..", "Roop tera mastana.." and "aaj ki
raat, ye kaisi raat.." may fall into that category I think since the
female is in a fix and the guy seems to be determined.. can be thought
of as the guy seducing the girl.
> all songs even remotely close are of the type male

Well. I think in these songs female has already been "pataofied".. its
just that they are just improving upon it :)
-Peeyush

Rapat should, based on context, mean fall. Aaj rapat jayen to hamen na
uthaiyo..
-Peeyush
I seriously doubt it since Anil Kapoor was by no means a dumbo in Betaaj
Badshah.. he was the Betaaj Badshah..
-Peeyush
I think it was 'Eshwar', if it were a remake of a kamalahasan.
'Eshwar', I think, was a remake of 'Swathi Muttham'. The heroine
was Vijayashanthi.

Rameshbhai! Am sure you must be having that answer by now..
I for one def.ly wont call "Ye mera dil" a "lousy" song. Its "the" perfect song
for the crazy dance that we used to do in college orchestra etc. The Helen-Asha
combo has got numerous fun songs of which I'd rate this the numero uno.
Anyways, this I used just as an excuse to get back a little in synch with
rmim (havent read in months now).. so which rjgk is going on? can anyone send
a copy to me plz.. ditto for chitrahaar. who's organizing the next rjgk/chit?
would help if an update is sent on quizzes say once a month for OOS (Out-Of-
Synch) rmim'ers like me..

Nope ... Eeshwar was a remake of Swathi Muthyam (Telugu) dubbed into Tamil as
Sippikul Muthu. Heroine was Radhika.

The words are:
dhaDakan pal pal badhatee jaaye
chupake chupake yeh samajhaaye
- Nilesh
And is the song something like
ohohoho baj utha saaNsoN meN, pyaar ka sangeet.
AnilK was rather proud of his role in the film. Thought that he had acted
really nicely and went about saying that in a lot of interviews prior to
film's release. One of his more humorous quotes was that he would go to
Madras and then wait one whole day to get the cynicism etc out of his system
and become the innocent Eeshwar character.
Now, DD has this rather odd habit of going ahead and telecasting the original
of the movies just about the time of the release of the copy. I remember this
happening with Main Azaad Hoon, Dayavaan, this movie and a few others too.
I also think that they might have telecast the original of Baazigar too {
Can anybody confirm, please? }. Anyway, when you compared the performances
of KamalH and AnilK, it really puts things in perspective.
Later,
Ikram.

Ek Phool Do Maali?
Amit
Didi Tera Devar.. seduction?
Ghazab Ka Hai Din.. seduction?
Bhangda Pale..seduction?
And there are many more songs which prove
your statement wrong.
Meenakshi
I'm betting it's Kalyanji Anandji, and without the slightly more creative
skills of their ex-assistants Lakshmikant-Pyarelal. Only KA could have composed
such an abysmally boring tune.
Roopa
I didn't know, LP were assistants to KA. I used to think they used
to play the mendolin and the violin with SJ.

Well, I'm not a hundred percent sure either. This seems to be a snippet of info
I happen to have in my head from somewhere, and I could be wrong.
Roopa
I seem to remember this film with music by KA in which LP were the
assisstants and their names were announced separately (not with the
other assistants) as Parasmani had been released and had been a hit.
Unfortunately I don't remember which movie.

Ever heard "Sayani" by Alisha, on a good quality stereo sound system,
you might consider her pretty good as well. Though I agree Asha is much
better since you don't need to listen to her on on a very high quality
to appreciate, we should also consider newer voices, shouldn't we?
-Peeyush
Yes they were assistant to KA and also to S D Burman.
>> I think Asha's voice is the sexiest bolywood has ever had /heard!
>Ever heard "Sayani" by Alisha, on a good quality stereo sound system,
>to appreciate, we should also consider newer voices, shouldn't we?
Well You're right Peeyush, alisha definitely has an R-rated voice. :)
But How about Purnima(sp?)? With songs like, Mei.n hoo.n Gaao.n ki
goree, Tututu tututara.., and the best song, IMHO, I've heard in the
last 5 years, 'Barsaat mei.n jub aaye gaa saavan kaa maheena..' I'd
go a step further and say she has an X-rated voice. :) Maybe its
just that I have great memories associated with the song. *shrug*
Anyway, that's just from the current crop though. As far as Asha is
concerned, the original poster stands corrected, I don't think anyone
comes CLOSE to how sexy she sounds in stuff like, 'Piyaar Naghma hay',
'Piyaa tuu, ub to aa jaa', etc....
Rizwan
Hmm, in which movies were LP assistants to SDB? I have been keeping an
eye out for this, but all that I have noticed so far in the matter of
assistants is N.Dutta, followed by Jaidev, followed by RDB, and then Meera
Burman his wife.
Atleast I haven't seen their names in some of SDB's more recognized movies.
All info appreciated
