For a change why we don't we talk about MD's copying each other's work
besides copying from western songs.

1. "Bheegi Bheegi raat mein" (KK/lata) from Ajnabi (MD-RDB). This song has a
striking resemblance to "Oh ghata sawari chori chori" (lata) from Abhinetri
(MD-Laxmi Pyare) at least in the opening line.

2. Kis Karan Kangana bhaje (asha/suresh wadkar) from Dacait was a blatant
copy of Kuch kehta hai yeh sawan from Mera Gaon Mera Desh ( Rafi/Lata). Of
course RDB would have justifed it that since they are both dacoit movies
tunes are bound to be similar. ( ?? WOW what a justification )

3. Did anyone notice that the opening refrain from Lata in "aaj kal paon
zammen par" from Ghar(MD-RDB) is same as in "Ek pyaar ka nagma hain"
(Lata/Mukesh) from Shor (MD-LP)

4. I have forgotten the words of this song . Its from a never-to-be-released
movie called "tadap" (MD-RDB) starring Chunky Pandey and Meenakshi Seshadri.
It had a song ( Lata/Amit Kumar) the stanza of which was a note-to-note copy
of "hum tum yug yug se" from Milan ( Lata/Mukesh) (MD-LP).

5. The KK song Chookar mera man ko from "Yaraana" (Amithab Bachan) had the same
opening refrain as "Phoolan ka taro ka" ( again KK) from Hera Rama Hara
Krishan. This time RDB was at the receving end of copying.

6. Opening refrain of "Aaaj purani yadon se " from Dilip Kumar's Aaadmi
(MD-Naushad) was exactly same as "Khoya Khoya Chand" from Kala Bazzar
(MD-SDB).

Please add more to this list.

HI!
A real classic example is RASIK BALMA from Chori Chori, MD
Shankar-Jaikishan and CHAND PHIR NIKHLA, from Paying Guest, MD SDB. Me,
being a great fan of SJ, feel that SDB copied it from SJ. As a matter of
fact, no one knows who copied from whom!

Some time back I was trying to compile a list of songs which sound
identical. Though I have forgotten most of them, here are some :

1. The stanza of "Mera Piya ghar aaya O ramji..." is exactly the same
as "Teri baahon mein hai jaanam..." from the Silsila number "Yeh kahaan
aa gaye hum..."

2. The two songs "sari sari raat teri yaad sataye..." and "pardesiyon se
na ankhiyan milanaa.. " have exactly the same tune.

3. There is a song in a Madhuri-salmaan starrer "sahibaan" which is a near
replica of the song "Husn pahadon ka, O sahiba..." from Ram Teri Ganga
Maili.

4. The tune of "Tujhe dekha to yeh jaana sanam..." is so much like
"Didi tera dewar diwna..", in the beginning.

5. The song "Tu mere samne, main tere saamne..." is quite identical in
its tune to "jaaiye aap kahan jaayenge..." sung by Asha Bhonsle.

6. The song "Roja jaaneman.." from Roja is inspired by Nazia hassan
and Zoheb Hassan number "Tujhe chahe na chahe...." (Disco Deewaane)

Some more on this:-

1. The song "Rabbi le lalli" from new Yaarana ( Rishi, Madhuri) has the
stanza lifted straight from "Dil tera dewaana hai sanam" from old Shammi
Kappor hit "Dil tera deewana". Seems like Anu Malik is specialist in this.

2. A very new song from film Khamoshi (MD Jatil Lalit). The opening lines
of the song "Aaj mein upar , aasman neche" is same as a song from 1989 flop
Goonj ( Kumar Gaurav - Juhi) - "Shama yeh suhana , akele tum ho akele hum
hai.". The MD of that film is some Mehboob ( I am not sure about the name
but it is some muslim name only). Interestingly this song from Goonj was
ealier on used in a TV comedy serial "Mr ya Mrs" (1985) starring Jayant
Kriplani. Anyone remebers this. So we have copy of a copy of a copy. GREAT.

'Sahibaan' had Rishi and Sunjay Dutt. The song in question
"kaise jiyoonga mai.n" does resemble the RTGM song, but I wouldn't
call it a 'near replica'. Very well, That is a line each has to draw
for oneself... :-)

I won't agree with these two --- IMO the scales are different,
the meter is different, the pace is different, the tunes are
different.

The music for 'Goonj' was by Biddu --- the same 'aap jaisa
koi' Disco Deewana. The song is sung by Binju Ali (who also acts in
the film and sings it onscreen) and Sadhna Sargam.

Are you sure about that, Ravi? I remember a fair bit of
"Mr. ya Mrs" --- and don't recall this song (or tune) being there at
all.

^^^^^^^

I don't agree. Only the "length" of the tune is same. Think about it.

I would use words like "same tune" for pairs like "Duniya meN hum aaye
haiN to jeen hi paDega" and "De di humeN aazadi bina kharag bina dhhaal",
not for pair you have suggested.

Shailendra> 5. The song "Tu mere samne, main tere saamne..." is

It seems you are stretching your imagination here. You can have your own
opinion, but sometimes it is wise not to make it known :)

As somebody said earlier on RMIM, there are only seven surs. So all songs
can be divided into seven categories; and similarity between two songs in
one category will be same as similarity between two songs that you have
mentioned.

Again, I think, this is an instance of stretching one's imagination too
much.

By any standard except the "feeling-of-happiness" I can't see how these
two songs can be termed similiar.

In fact, the Khamoshi song is more likely to be taken as a copy of the
Roja song "dil hai chhota sa, chhoti si asha".

There are better examples if you want to grill Jatin-Lalit.

The music of Goonj is not Biddu. I am 100% positive. However you named
Binju Ali and I think he was the MD , plus he acted also in that movie.

I am referring to the tune of the song and you are referring to the words.
Please listen to that song (Goonj) and you will notice the similarity in
tune.

The MD of 'Goonj' (directorial venture of Jalal Agha) is Biddu of "aap jaisa

Really?! I completeley agree that the beginnings of the two songs are
very similar - the rest of the DDLJ song of course is more interesting
than the HAHK song...The similarity between the beginnings of "Tujhe
Dekha" and "Ho Gaya Hai Tujhko To Pyaar" irks me though.

This is an interesting observation - there is a striking parallel even
into the verses, except for that whole "Toot Gayi Toot Ke Main Choor Ho
Gayi" part, which of course SUDDENLY goes off into major. Not that the
two songs are in the same KEY too - C minor!

Don't know anything about this one...

Much as I hate to agree with Ravi Krishna, there is some similarity. It
doesn't lie in the opening lines tho, rather the ending of the opening lines

The Khamoshi song goes "aaj main oopar, aasmaaN neeche"
aaj main aage, zamaana hai peeche"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The zamaana hai peeche part is almost going over the same surs (in the same
sequence) as the "akele hum haiN" part. However this similarity can as well
be attributed to pure coincidence (half a line in the ending part of the
mukhdDa; Copy?; I think not.)
: There are better examples if you want to grill Jatin-Lalit.
Sure. :) But why grill somebody who is giving some decent music??
As another similar song (which cannot really be termed a copy) consider
"Yeh ho thode se haiN paise" {Every Hubby should memorise those lines :) }.
The stanza tune "Agar kaheeN dukaan hoti" is, to me, very similar to the
stanzas of "Yeh jeevan hai" i.e. "xxxx se na duniya se". Again the
similarity probably ends there and should not really be termed a copy.
Even Naushad pays tribute (probably unconsciously) to SC's Aja re o pardesi
in Guddu's song "Selena" {Wow, ek hi song meN tribute to SalilC and tejano
singer Selena bhi?? :)}. The stanzas have some notes at the very end which
are similar to the aja re o pardesi song. mHo. {All ire from Lehigh
will be met with the response of "Yeh ARR ke songs Sun-sunke mere kaan
kharaab ho gaye haiN" :)}. Most probably I would say that Naushaad must have
liked that song greatly and it came out naturally from his sub-conscious.
Later,
Ikram.
I have heard the "Goonj" song and I do not find any similarity.
And btw, for "Roja" one, I am not comparing words. I am going by the
tune only.
IMHO, stanza tune of "Ye jeevan hai" i.e. "Ye na socho is meN apni"
part, is similiar to "Deevangi meN kahiN had se guzar na jaooN" line
in "BaDi mushkil hai" from "Anjaam". So is it a "trio" now ?
While I partially agree with Arun on the similarity of the tune above , I
think the Saagar song was more closer to "Yahee hai tamanna teri ghar ka
When I heard that song for the first time ( after Saagar was released) I was
shocked to see the striking similarity in the tune. But later when I
considered RDB it was not that shocking to me. After all RDB !!
