Hello folks,
The answers for the TRIVIA QUIZ. First the folks who got the
answers.
- Chetan Divekar and Venkat R. Mantri from The U. of Kansas got
Qustions 1,3,5,6,7. Good Show.
- Nitin Joshi from Clemson U. gets 1 & 4.
- Sandeep Joshi from Clemson U. gets 1.

Q 1. A peculiar trait runs between the PICTURIZATION of the following 2
songs:
- "Kar chale hum fida, jan aur tan saathiyon" from HAQEEQAT (*
Dharam).
- "Bambai se aya mera dost" from AAP KE KHATIR (* Vinod K.,
Rekha).

And, this is not a technical question. You are eligible to answer if you have
seen these two movies. (I would be very surprised if there is any other song
with this trait).

A 1. Both these songs are at the very end of the movie (i.e the last
frame of both these songs say "THE END"). Both these songs are
picturized for the very first time at the end.
Nitin Joshi and Sandeep Joshi from Clemson U. point out to one more
song with this trait:
" Chal re sajni ab kya soche" from "Bombay ka Babu"

Q 2. Let me relate a scene from a well known ENGLISH film. A family is
getting ready to receive their new step mom from the railway station.
A few minutes back papa was practising shooting birds in the sky.
Just when the elder son is all ready to go,
a shot rings through the air. Papa looks in the distance to see his youngest
daughter fall in a heap. The next bullet is for Dad followed by the elder son.
The youngest kid hearing these shots rushes out of the house. Enter the
villain with his cronies who were responsible for this carnage. They
stare at the little kid. The villain smiles lovingly at the kid and
takes careful aim . The shot is muffled by the rush of the
Steam Engine which is in the next scene. In due course mom arrives at the
house to see a crowd of people staring at 4 bodies covered in white.
(And yes, this movie was released much before SHOLAY).

Identify the English Movie ?

A 2. Nobody got this. The movie is SEGRIO LEONES's ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE
WEST (* Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda). The villain was Henry
Fonda in probably his first super negative role.

Q 3. Hollywood is now well known for its sequels. I can recall 3 sequels
made in Bollywood (maybe there are more.).

Name at least three Hindi movie sequels ?

A 3.
SURAKSHA & WARDAT: (*Mithun as GunMaster G9 AKA Agent Gopi).
NAGIN & NAGEENA: (* Sridevi)
Victoria 203 & RAJA aur RANA: (* Pran and AShok Kumar.)

Chetan and Venkat from U. of Kansas point out two more:
CHALTI KA NAAM GAADI & CHALTI KA NAAM ZINDAGI (* KK, Ashok Kumar
and Anup Kumar).
JAI SANTOSHI MAA and SANTOSHI VRAT KA MAHATVA.

(I am sure there are more).

Q 4. OK all you soccer fans, World Cup was fun and most of us know what SUDDEN
DEATH means. A well known heroine is killed in a ritualistic manner by
the villain who calls the final step of her execution SUDDEN DEATH.

Which movie ?

A 4. Raza Murad knocking of, surprise, SRIDEVI in JAANBAAZ.

Q 5. Can you name atleast 2 pairs of movies which have their titles in
English and Hindi which translate to each other. e.g. Game and Khel.

A 5. - RAAJKUMAR & PRINCE (* Shammi Kapoor)
- LOVE LOVE LOVE (* Juhi, Amir) & ISHQ ISHQ ISHQ (* Dev,
Zeenat).
Chetan and Venkat come up with:
- BAAZIGAR & GAMBLER.
- LOVE STORY & PYAR KI KAHANI (I just remembered PREM KAHANI).
- LOVE (Salman, Revathi) & PYAR.

Q 6. A peculiar trait runs in the following pair of movies:
- Janwar (* Shammi, Rajashri) & Tum se Acha kaun hai (* Shammi,
Babita).
- Guide (* Dev, Waheeda) & Tere Mere Sapne (* Dev, Mumtaz).
- Teesri Manzil (* Shammi, Asha P.) & Deewana Muj Sa Nahin (*
Amir K., Madhuri).

Can you identify the similarity between the pairs of movies ?

A 6.
The title of the second movie is inspired from a hot song in the
first. (Lots more in this category too).

Q 7. If you have seen the song "Pyar hua ikrar hua hai pyar se phir
kyon darta hai dil" from SHREE 420 did you notice anything special in
the cast of characters shown ?

A 7. The three kids walking in the rain with raincoats are Rishi, Randhir
and Chimpu.

Thats it for now. Will post after I collect some more
trivia.

Bye,
Sudeep

You're right. KHOTEY SIKKE is a movie about five goons who land up in a
village and wipe out the local daakus. KACHCHEY HEERE was it's sequel with
approximately the same bunch of actors. In both films Feroz Khan does a
supposed 'Clint Eastwood' western impersonation - complete with the garb, the
cigar & the background music. And does he look funnier than hell
(unintentionally ofcourse ) in these roles.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This is wrong, Baazigar doesn't mean Gambler. Juari & Gambler is correct, but
I don't think that there is some movie called Juari.

I am sorry to point out here that the three kids were reema, randhir and
rishi and not chimpu. In simi garewal's documentary on raj kapoor, it
was also pointed out that chimpu was not yet born then...

Anyway a good quiz.. Keep them coming.

Doesn't "woh muqaddar ka sikander" (the Rafi version) from Muqaddar Ka
Sikander also end the movie? To the best of my knowledge, it is a full song
in itself (albeit a short one).

SHOLAY and RAMGARH KE SHOLAY. For those of you who haven't seen the latter,
don't miss it! Its hilarious!

HUM HAIN RAAHI PYAAR KE is another one.
